This may sound like a really stupid question!!
I have brought a moses basket but do not know what bedding to use - which is better gro bag or top sheet and blanket?
And if I do use a gro bag will she need a light blanket on top of that too?
So confused!! xx

When are you due? I'm due in May so it should be quite warm by then so i think I'm going to put my baby in a cellular blanket in moses basket. Maybe the top over thing that comes with the moses basket too.

You're not meant to use other blankets and things with grobags I don't think. I think the grobag is in place of blankets and things. I'm using a grobag for when the baby's a bit bigger, or maybe even when he's in his cot.

I am waiting to see how big the baby is - you can only use grobags from 7lbs I think, so if smaller it will have to be sheet and blanket for a while. I think I will wait on the grobag for a few weeks anyway, might as well get some use out of the blankets etc I have been bought!!

Swaddled DS2 when he was first born he was 6lbs 5oz and then when he got big enough he went into grobags - they are brill . Swaddling helped both my boys as they both had a tendancy to throw their arms round in their sleep and waking themselves up, and swaddling helped calm this down, by the time they were big enough to go into grobags this had pretty much stopped.

Then went onto fleece all in ones over jamas for winter or without jamas in summer for DS1.

Going to use grobags here, but in a cot not moses basket. No blanket on top though.

lailasmum · 12/01/2008 15:24

Have a feeling you can't put a newborn in a grobag, think they have to be 10lb though that may have changed. We used fleece all in ones as my dd got tangled up in grobags from constant movement even when tiny.

JingleyJen · 12/01/2008 15:26

swaddled DS1 until about 10-12 weeks swaddled
DS1 then had sheets and blankets until about 4 months when we heard of Grobags
DS2 swaddled for about 4 weeks (he hated it!)then went straight into a grobag. ( have now found a quite cheap supplier of lovely bags here

MuffinMclay · 12/01/2008 15:48

I think 0-6 month grobags are from 7lbs. With ds1 I had newborn sized grobags for babies weighing less than that (which he did), but they don't seem to be available now.

thanks for all your posts, I think um gonna use a sheet and blanket and when she's a little older use the gro bag!! Just want to do whats best!! x

I might try that new grobag swaddler this time round before I move onto bags - depends how chilly it is in mid September!

lailasmum · 13/01/2008 11:05

Think they might have actually made the grobags a little smaller or more adjustable, as the ones we had were definately from 10lb but were huge, but the site does now say 7lb, But is was nearly 4 years ago so sizing may well have changed.

worzsel · 13/01/2008 12:36

depends on the weather but probably swaddling for the first month or so then grobags

PuppyDogEyes · 13/01/2008 12:57

i think i read somewhere not to use a grobag with moses basket.

fleacircus · 13/01/2008 13:05

Our 12-day old DD is very happy in Grobag - she was 8lb 9oz at birth though and is now over 9lb. In a crib, not a moses basket - arms do flail a bit but not so it seems to bother her, she's sleeping for about 2-3 hrs at a go and on one glorious occasion 4hrs.

Gemzooks · 13/01/2008 19:45

def will swaddle again as it worked so well first time, swaddled up tight in big muslin cloths...

AprilL · 14/01/2008 09:20

You are definitely not supposed to use any other sheets or blankets in conjunction with sleeping bags (I'm a Dream Bag distributor). The 0-6 month bags I sell are for babies from around 10lbs upwards.

We started out using a cell blanket for our DS when he was in his moses basket, tucking him in firmly round the sides, then once he outgrew that we transferred him to a sleeping bag in his cotbed. TBH it was a faff trying to use a sleeping bag in the moses basket, because so much of the length was draped over the end of the basket and I never felt that was particularly safe. DS also flailed his arms as a tiny baby but whenever I tried to swaddle him he would fight and struggle till he got his arms free, then fall asleep happily. Sleeping bags do pretty much the same thing for him now - his body and legs are warm but his arms are free. And he is a complete wriggler, so if he was now in blankets or a duvet (he's 20 months) I'd be for ever getting up to tuck him in again!

Naetha · 14/01/2008 15:13

I absolutely swear by my grobag for week old DS He was 8lbs10oz at birth and settles in it like a dream. It's also great for night time feeds because I just feed him in his grobag, and he doesn't get cold etc.

andiemustlosehalfastonemore · 14/01/2008 15:14

john lewis do ones suitable for 7lbs and up used those for my latest ds from birth

Sunshinemummy · 14/01/2008 15:21

When DS was first born we swaddled him in those special swaddling blankets until he was bid enough for a grobag. He's still in a grobag now at 22m.

DD is 4 weeks and weighs 9lbs. We tried our 0-6 bag on (suitable from 7lb7oz) but thought the head hole was too big. i.e. would go over head without being undone. Is it too big or ok? Seems strange as she is so much bigger than starting weight. Yes her head is the right size
