Progesterone

Has anyone in the UK managed to persuade their GP/EPU to prescribe progesterone during pregnancy?

6 weeks today, and blood tests for hcg have shown hcg is progressing perfectly so far but my progesterone has decreased quite a bit week on week since 4 weeks. I'm very worried at during early pregnancy it should be increasing not decreasing.

You're correct in that it should be increasing - it supports the pregnancy in the very early stages, before the placenta can take over.

If the drop in prog was seen on several blood tests, didn't the doctor/clinic say anything? Did you ask to have it prescribed?

I have been using a private medical company, for blood tests. Although the progesterone has been decreasing they haven't offered any comment other than "progesterone within range" however it has gone from

â—¦	3 weeks 5 days: 105 nmol
â—¦	4 weeks 5 days: 85.1 nmol
â—¦	5 weeks 4 days: 65.3 nmol

I need to ring my GP today and explain. However I am nervous as I used a private firm for the tests that they may dismiss them.

I have had a previous loss at 5 weeks, so this is the furthest we have gotten.

Or a private GP? They often seem to be more willing to prescribe progesterone based on posts on here.

Have just been put on the callback list for my local epu, and a nurse at the local private clinic is going to call me back later too.

I tried my GP but the receptionist said I wouldn't be able to get on the call list today as it's not urgent.

It's such a ridiculously complicated process! I'm sure you'd be willing to pay for a private prescription of the progesterone pessaries if you think it would help! And it can't harm to try. Don't know why they make it so difficult 😤
Fingers crossed you can get some today

Thank you. Yes, exactly, I'd happily pay
private just to get them! The cost doesn't matter at all, it's just so nerve wracking having to try all avenues while feeling like I don't have time before things take a turn for the worse.

I'm nervous they'll want me in to do their own tests, and then that's even longer to wait.

Local EPU said there's nothing they can do, said it would have to come from GP. Can't get through to local GP all day. Private GP has said there's nothing they can do. Said I would need speak with an obstetrician.

So getting nowhere really. Such a horrible process just waiting for it to get lower and lower until I miscarriage.

Hi @RileySo I am also looking at getting progesterone - there's no point going via NHS so am planning to get a one off private appointment. I don't know if my levels are low but I'm 42 and have had 1 mc. The NHS will give you progesterone now if you have had 1+ mc and are currently bleeding in a new pregnancy. I'm not bleeding but don't want to waste time. I contacted some places recommended on here and on an FB group and will get an appointment with one of them. Have you tried any private obstetricians?

@RileySo did you manage to get progesterone from a private?
