Help - what can I take for heartburn and not have the trots!

Hi, am having dreadful heartburn and taking milk of magnesia (can't stand Gaviscon). Have tried milk and pineapple - not at the same time! - but I haven't found them to be very effective. Unfortunately I think the m.o.m. is giving me diarrhoea... Ick. Can anyone recommend anything that's ok to take (2nd trimester) and isn't going to have me rushing to the loo? Please??

ranitidine-my saviour. Can get script from GP if promise not to take it regularly, but consultant at hospital say take it daily. I take it as needed, and fab. Needed loads last pg, this time just happy to have some in the cupbpoard.

Thank you! Tried the almonds today (had to go and buy some). Don't think they've worked too well so far, but will persevere. If no results by next week, will ask the doc for ranitidine and see if that helps. Cheers!

Mint tea always worked for me.

I take ranitidine too- doc says I can take it up to 3 times a day. It works much better than gaviscon ime.

I was suffering badly with heartburn a while ago and found that traditional remedies were giving me IBS symptoms so went looking for natural remedies on the internet. Surprisingly celery was given as a cure for heartburn - you just chomp on a couple of inches of celery. I was very sceptical but each time I've tried it it worked - might be worth a try!

mucogel - on prescription. worked for me

Thank you for all of these suggestions. Just about to pop out so will see if I can find some celery and mint teabags. I'm willing to try anything to stop the bloody heartburn without having to cork my bottom too!!!!!

If the peppermint tea is effective, but not effective enough, you might try fennel tea. My friend used to drink that for heartburn when she was pregnant, but her midwife told her to be careful with fennel tea, so she only drank it if peppermint didn't work. We never really got to the bottom of what harm fennel tea might do to pregnant ladies... I might ask my midwife now I'm pregnant!
