I'm in my first trimester and have terrible nausea.

What has helped? No medication just home remedies please?

Mint imperials saved me from being sick in the bus to work several times!

AnxiousSquirrel · 18/05/2022 11:45

I found eating ginger sweets helped, got them from Holland and Barrett I believe, also ginger tea was helpful.

Flat cola is really good as is the juice of tinned fruit

ElenaSt · 18/05/2022 11:48

I don't know if they still do them but I found the travel sickness wristbands very good.

So much so that when I showed my father whilst sitting in the passenger seat of his car and he laughed at the idea, I instantly vomited when I removed them to show him! Thankfully I had an empty carrier bag handy as we were going shopping.

I also found not going hungry helped me so would always have something to eat when I left work before going home.

Sea bands (travel sickness wristbands).
I was very skeptical, tried them in desperation and they actually made a big difference for me.

Eating little and often - I felt far worse with am empty stomach.

Regenbogen22 · 18/05/2022 12:24

Don't let your stomach get empty! Top it up with plain salty crackers.

SuzyQ12 · 18/05/2022 12:31

Dry crackers worked for me!

GalactatingGoddess · 18/05/2022 12:37

Mints
Ginger
Babybels!
Pears
Mini cheddar crisps

All worked for me

I'm 18 weeks now and just about coming out of the nausea and sickness. Unfortunately for me it's probably just time that has improved things. I tried two of the drugs with no benefit (cyclizine and something else, can't think of the name). Ginger made no difference, despite the number of people who swore it would definitely work...

Heartburn makes me more sick so I've been taking omeprazole and do not lie flat at all. Definitely eat something every 2 hours. I have a couple of rich tea biscuits when I wake up at 2am to help me go back to sleep. I'm on quite a restrictive diet as it's the only way I can keep it under control. In the day I have cereal when I get up, toast 2 hours later, crackers and cheese for lunch, sometimes again in the afternoon. Salty crisps, and activia creamy vanilla yogurt also go down well. I still can't tolerate meat or the smell of food cooking. Supermarket fresh pasta and sauce has been a useful quick meal and not too heavy.

I've found that resting makes it a lot more tolerable. I'm very lucky I'm able to be signed off work, as it feels miles worse if I try to read or concentrate.

Smartsub · 18/05/2022 12:41

Don't get hungry. Perversely it seemed to be hunger made me sick

Cocobeau · 18/05/2022 12:45

Almost everyone you mention MS to will immediately shove ginger in your face but I found it absolutely useless in every form. Don't force yourself to keep trying something if it didn't work for you the first time.

Here's what I found helped.

Ice lollies (specifically orange Calippos - was a nice refreshment after only managing to drink water too)
Salt and vinegar crisps
Bacon sandwiches
Wheetabix (on less severe days)
Extra strong mints

Seeline · 18/05/2022 12:46

Unfortunately nothing worked for me except medication. If you are really bad, don't rule them out.

21 years on I still can't face ginger biscuits......

Cocobeau · 18/05/2022 12:47

Oh, also unless you're too poorly to get up and out, going for a walk really really helped me. As much as I didn't want to even consider getting up some days, once I was out moving in the fresh air I felt so much better.

Helllooo · 18/05/2022 12:49

Reducing the temperature of the room. Had the heating off and windows open in the winter

Laurzz · 18/05/2022 12:57

I'm currently 6 weeks and feel the same.

Today is my first day using the sea bands and adding lemon to my water. I haven't felt as near bad as I have over the last week.

Good Luck!

Annny27 · 18/05/2022 13:04

I grazed on sweets, crisps and chocolates just to keep my stomach as full as I could which seemed to help

SteelCicada · 18/05/2022 13:05

Ritz crackers! I'm on about my 10th box. I've also discovered I have to have breakfast immediately after getting up. Luckily I now like cereal with milk! (but hate almost everything else...)

Laurzz · 18/05/2022 13:11

@SteelCicada that's interesting about eating immediately after getting up. When I first wake up that's when my nausea is at it's worst. Think I'll give that a try tomorrow morning.

@Laurzz or keep crackers or plain biscuits on your nightstand and nibble a couple before even getting up!
