Braxton Hicks. Is there any point having them checked out?

Am 25 weeks and have been getting increased no of BH, I know that's what they are as had them with DS. Have not lost any fluid or anything and between the BH, baby kicks loads.

Have been getting more and more of them particularly when I walk anywhere or do anything. When I stop, sit down and relax they tend to stop -so if I go to hospital and get put on a monitor nothing will show up!

Spoke to midwife few days ago who said sounds like i have very irritable uterus - does anyone know if they can do anything about this or if it's a problem at all?

ooh, i don't know I'm afraid, but I'm having really strong ones in this pregnancy and haven't had any really in my previous pregnancies.

What does it mean to have an irritable uterus?

moominsmummy · 11/01/2008 21:09

just that whenever I cough, sneeze, go to the loo or someone fiddles with my tummy (for scans or antenatal checks) that it goes really hard - got it last time but only in last month or so

it means i can't walk at more than a snail's pace which is REALLY annoying

i got them from bout 30weeks just as you describe my mw said it was just the baby getting into position? not sure how accurate that is didnt believe it not sure why but think it was her off way of being reassuring!
you could try a bath to ease them!

I had loads of BH at 25 weeks and got worried - for a day or two they were almost constant. MW said probably fine but to get checked out. I got checked and, yes, was fine. That MW also said that some people just have a more sensitive uterus. My mother says she was the same. I reckon I could have a bh just by thinking of someone touching the bump, and like you get them when I stand up.
If you're worried get checked - the doctor said I was wrong but I really feel that worrying about it was making it worse because I was so aware of each one.

Look on the bright side - with an irritable uterus you are less likely to need to be induced!
