Vbac induction experiences

I had my vbac appointment today at 24 weeks and have left a little disappointed. Wonder if anyone can share any experiences.

As a background, my first pregnancy I was induced at 40 weeks due to excess waters. I had the balloon catheter, pessary and pitocin. Ultimately I never dilated past 4 cm and decision was made for a C-section 5 days after starting the induction process. I was exhausted by the end and don't have a very positive memory of the section or recovery.

This time I was hoping for a vbac, however I have low Papp a levels (placental issues) and at my 20 week scan it showed baby was already looking at or below 10th centile.

The midwife today basically said that because the baby is likely going to need to come early and previous failed induction, its less likely an inductions going to work this time and to prepare for the fact it might be another c section.

I'd really like to know how it went for others who had to be induced early when they had a previous c section. Are there any recommendations? I had originally said I didn't want sweeps or the balloon because they are invasive, painful and did nothing for me. But after finding out I'd have to stay in for the pessary until a spot on labour ward came available for the rest of induction, which could take days, I'm feeling like I'm running low on options. Thank you !

Hi, I just had VBAC at 10 May 2022 (last week). I got a c-section for the first labor because my water was leaked throughout the pregnancy and by the week 34, the water was almost gone.

The doctor said it’s not safe for the baby to stay longer inside so he suggested for a c-sec. However, I insisted to try natural delivery so they induced me. After 24 hours, the dilation was only 1cm and the water broke and gone completely. 10 afterwards, I delivered via c-sec.

Since my experience with c-sec was traumatic, I wanted VBAC. At 8 May, my water broke without contraction. I had to wait for 48 hours for the contraction to come naturally and waiting for available delivery suit, but it the contractions wasn’t strong enough and the dilation was only 2cm. Then they gave me an induction for about 10 hours (I don’t remember clearly). When the opening completed, I pushed for 2 hours and I delivered the baby through VBAC.

Throughout the process I spoke not only to midwives but also consultant. Maybe you can search for a birth consultant in the hospital you choose. I got mine by searching on the hospital website. Hope this help.

Thanks so much for your reply! The midwives at the minute are making it seem very unlikely that my body will respond to induction as it didn't last time. It's really nice to hear that yours has been successful.

Can I ask how many weeks gestation you were this time around?
