Would this be suitable for a night time bed for a newborn?

I like it because we live in an apartment and it can be easily used during the day too and as a seat as they get older.
Im concerned about the mattress that goes on top though and whether it's safe?

Thanks!

It says it's ideal for daytime and nighttime sleeping yes however it doesn't look very big. I'm looking at my 3 month old and it doesn't look like he would fit in it.

It does look a handy sest to have but I also don't think you'd get much use from it as a bed. We had a chico next to me which looks looks lot larger and my son had outgrown it by 5/6mo. Kept hitting the sides with his arms and waking himself up.

Thanks for replying, I appreciate it 😊
I have had the same concerns, that it would be outgrown too quickly.

It looks tiny. I have long babies and they would be out of that by 3 months. Like a Moses basket.

Thanks everyone, I'm now looking into the Chicco Next to me bed as it looks a bit bigger - hoping to get to 6 months with something!

Looks suitable; but it would probably last you about five minutes before the baby has outgrown it.

Regenbogen22 · 13/05/2022 15:15

@BrightOrion a friend recommended the brand Babybay. They're also Next-to-me cribs but I believe they have various sizes. Anyway, she has a bruiser of a baby and he stayed in it until he was a year old, I think. We're in Germany so you'd have to check if they have a UK site.

BertieBotts · 13/05/2022 15:42

Agreed that the babybay is the only one of the bedside cots worth getting, or you can convert a normal cot like the ikea ones.

BertieBotts · 13/05/2022 15:43

Chico next to me does usually last until about 6 months though. I just think those ready made co sleepers have more problems than they solve...

I appreciate this feedback. I’m a ftm and honestly feeling very overwhelmed and so not knowledgeable about any of this! 💖

Things that convert are often a false economy. Just looking again at that crib and it looks pretty useless as a reclining chair (baby won't want to go in it) and really hard to clean as a high chair and you don't need a special chair for toddlers to do drawing in because they can just use normal chairs by the time they want to do drawing (or you can use the highchair!)

Do you have space for a full sized cot in your room?

Do you plan to have the baby in your bed for feeding etc, or would like to avoid that?

Have you already chosen your pram, does that have a carrycot suitable for overnight sleeping?

Honestly Ikea stuff is generally the best for babies, it's designed well, it's cheap, it's hardwearing and it looks nice.

I've just got rid of next to me crib as baby wouldn't settle in it and it was too small to be of use for long. Now have full size cot next to the bed with the side off - a bit like a giant next to me! The plus side is she will sleep in this for several years as a cot and then it converts into a toddler bed. You can pick them up very cheaply second hand and then just buy a new mattress, or ask friends if they have one in the loft 😂

I think balance is key. Try to have your baby comfortable in all positions of sleep. Also, consider afternoon napping with your baby next to you, and leaving them alone at night or when they are a bit older (3months onwards)use cribs. It’s important to bond with baby, but also important to have them develop a sense of independence
