Hello ladies, so I’m 39 and am pregnant with my 3rd ickle bubba, had my bloods back and have been given a 1:2 chance of a downs baby. Obviously I’m a little nervous and whatever the outcome me and my partner will decide at the time but I’m so confused my NT is 1.9 and my hormones have come back fine so the midwife said they are doing on my age , had a cvs yesterday just to confirm but just curious anyone else been in a similar situation ☺️

My first son, (pregnant at 21) came back 1in4. My last son at 43, 1in300000 or thereabouts. It's a lot of factors. I know it's hard not to worry, I'm so sorry for all the stress. The good thing is that the Scans etc seem good and that also knowledge is power.

The vast majority of high risk results in the combined test come to nothing (I believe about 95%), so hopefully this is the case for you. I really question how useful the test is though and wish they’d just roll out NIPT tests as standard. The combined test finds around 75-90% of cases (depending on where you live) but causes a great many more to have an unnecessary procedure and a lot of stress.
The NT measurement on its own can sometimes be a useful factor in finding other issues outside the main conditions tested for though.
In our age group (I’m also 39) it’s DS that has the higher risk factor but then you hear so many positive stories from parents like @curliegirlie
I think it’s strange just saying your age was the risk, though, as I came back low risk at the same age - then had a NIPT test anyway.
I hope everything works out for you. Please update us.

@Merryclaire completely agree about the roll out of NIPTs rather than the combined tests (IF they’re coupled with up-to-date non-scaremongering information about DS to allow informed choices). I’m TTC at the mo at the ripe age of 39 (40 this year) and if I’m lucky enough to conceive again I am hoping to bypass the combined test, as I know the combo of my age and having already had a child with DS would push me immediately up into high chance…

Thankyou so much for your responses ladies, still waiting my results but did receive my hospital letter regarding my screening results and from what I can see I have a low Papp score so they have put that against my age and come up with the figures sent out.
i had issues with my daughters placenta so I’m hoping if anything it’s just me being scanned more for growth but won’t know Till Monday.
i definitely agree with you it’s so much unnecessary stress I would not have this test again x
