Anyone? My first was a nightmare and due to being induced again at appx 37 weeks and really not looking forward to it. Anyone share any positive stories about 2nd time inductions?

My first was horrific! My second was a dream and if I could guarantee the same again I would have more children. First time I was worried but the second I just relaxed into knowing it would take ages and that helped me mentally. I wish you the best.

Thanks @Bert2020 I've known it was very likely the entire pregnancy but now they've confirmed it I've just lost my shit a little bit about it. Even writing this I know everyone and every Labour/induction is different but I'm hoping there's some truth in the second one being easier x

I had 3 inductions and they all went well and each time labour got shorter. I just made sure to walk and do squats in between the contractions and that helped. I hope everything goes well for you.

I cried buckets when they said I needed a second induction. I considered a section but thought I would try and after looking at others experiences many do seem to have a better time the second time so everything crossed for you too.

I'm the same today @Bert2020 I've cried all morning and debated a C-section but I think I will go for induction, at least I know I survived it the first time and it couldn't have gone much worse so at least I know what I'm in for!
Thank you @Coolhand2 I think that's why the first was so awful as I was strapped to the bed for continuous monitoring I'm hoping I can be more mobile this time x

I think from the drip starting to DS2 being born was roughly 4.5/5 hours. He was 9 lbs 7oz and I only had gas and air and a really small tear. It is totally possible to have a very positive birth experience with an induction.

Good Luck

Thank you so much for the reply @woody87 I'm crying happy tears at the thought it may not necessarily be a shit show again!

My first was horrendous for a variety of reasons, ended up in theatre as baby was stuck and heart rate slowed. I can honestly say I had such a positive birth experience the second time around, even though this time I couldn't have my husband with me for most of it all due to covid restrictions and I'd been terrified of having another induction due to my experience the first time. On paper the second one sounds worse as the first time I just needed the pessary and the second time I needed to have my waters broken and then the syntocin drip...but what made the difference for me was having midwives who really respected my wishes in terms of the environment and letting me get on with it. I also refused all pain relief other than gas and air the first time as I was desperate for a pool birth (which I couldn't have in the end as someone else was in that room!). Second time I still wanted a pool birth but as soon as they said I needed the syntocin drip I said I'd only consent if I had an epidural first and it made such a difference. I felt calm, in control and I actually remember my daughter's birth. (Blocked out a lot of my son's 🤦🏻‍♀️). It can definitely be a different story second time around! X

Oh, and just to validate your feelings OP, I was so scared to have an induction again that I was booked in for a planned c-section. The week before my section date my consultant had to change and the new one said they wouldn't support me having a c sec at all so put me down for induction a few days later instead. As you can probably imagine I was mildly hysterical about it all, I wish I could have known how it would go and saved myself a lot of upset and stress.

BabyB19 · 10/05/2022 15:26

I'm so glad you had such a better experience @mummabubs the second time around. This will be my last baby/Labour so I'm hoping to have something positive (obviously aside from 2 healthy babies which are absolutely worst every stitch) to take away from it. I do feel like I will be firmer this time you are just clueless the first time aren't you x

Currently on the ward after having the pessary put in, any other good second induction stories that will keep me going until I'm in Labour....

I had an induction with my second and it was such a calm and positive experience. I only had to be monitored for a certain amount of time before and after each pessary and could spend the rest of the time moving around/getting comfortable. Is this an option for you? My first was counted as an induction because they had to intervene to get me into activie labour and it was a very difficult birth. My experiences were honestly like chalk and cheese.
Wishing you all the best with your induction OP!

BabyB19 · 24/07/2022 22:07

Updating for info if anyone searches this, I had the Pessary induction followed by a 93 minute Labour, no intervention, no paint relief other then gas and air, so your second induction really can be very different x
