Am I overthinking - sleeping arrangements

Our plan is to have baby sleep in our room in a next to me until 6month however our bedroom is an extension and has 3 external walls - it can get pretty cold in there during the night - no problem for us but I’m a FTM and thinking it may not be good for baby? I have been thinking of moving our bed into what will be the baby’s room eventually to sleep with him in there then we move out when baby is ready. Do you think it’s necessary for us to move rooms or am I overthinking it? Any advice be appreciated. Baby is due September.

I would personally stay where you are, babies cry if cold, you would know and could move then if theres an issue.

Stay and layer baby up as necessary. My January-born baby used to sleep in a woolly cardigan on top of her vest and sleepsuit, plus a sleeping bag and an extra blanket. You can get sleeping bags with sleeves for colder nights too. Baby will let you know if they're not comfortable.

The baby will be absolutely fine, baby sleeping bags are really warm and snuggly. I put my baby in a long sleeved vest and sleepsuit in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag in winter.

It's safer for a baby to be a bit cold than it is for them to overheat as overheating increases the risk of SIDS. What temperature is your room? You could put a room thermometer near where the crib will be in advance so it gives you an idea and then have a look online at somewhere like Lullaby Trust for the recommended amount of bedding and clothing for safe sleeping at that room temperature

A cooler room is safer for baby in terms
Of preventing SIDS. Stay where you are.

It's much better safety wise for the room to be on the cool side rather than warm.

This is where knitted wool cardigans over a footed sleepsuit can be useful. Then a baby sleeping bag over the top (once they're big enough for the first size to be safe - check their weight) and even in a cold room should be fine.

You actually have to be quite careful not to overheat a baby as they'll just go sleepy and not tell you. If they actually feel cold they'll let you know and you'll be able to feel that they're cold.

Our house is naturally warm and DD as a newborn just had a sleepsuit and a thin cellular blanket. We then went to stay with my parents in an old stone house and the first night she woke up very cross and the minute I picked her up could feel she was cold. A 2.5 tog sleeping bag sorted it out.

Do you have an idea what the overnight temp actually is in the room? Optimum sleeping temperature for babies is much lower than you might think (16-20 degrees, IIRC).

As others have said get a room thermometer - gro egg is a good one and it will tell you what the baby needs to wear for the temp of the room.
