Does anyone know what meds can be taken for hay-fever when pregnant?

Antihistamines are fine , just double check the package.

I took the one beginning with L loratadine? Throughout pregnancy. My doctors were aware. I think ideally you're not meant to take anything. Recently my ivf dr said to try and use a nose spray, eye drops etc instead.

I take the beconase Nasal spray. Apparently it's ok because it's steroids rather than medication. This was recommended to me by a doctor in the family. But don't tell the pharmacist you're pregnant as they have to be over cautious and likely won't give it to you. It works a bit, but unfortunately I've not found anything that's powerful enough to really work but it's better than nothing.

There's a nasal spray you can get from the GP that might be better for you.

Another vote for Beconase. I've always had terrible hayfever and just took antihistamines which never really worked. Then when I was pregnant the doctor told me to take Beconase instead and it was life-changing as it eliminates all of my symptoms apart from itchy eyes. Hope it works for you. Hayfever is a miserable condition.

I spoke to the pharmacist at the GP and she said preference was to take nothing but nasal sprays like Beconase mean less is absorbed into the bloodstream so better for baby while still giving you relief. However, I found another variety called Becodefence which specifically states that its suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Its more like a barrier than a medication but its working fairly well for me, just makes me sneeze like mad when I first use it!

loratadine and cetirizine are both fine.
piriton as well, but it can make some people drowsy.

if you don't get on with those the gp can prescribe other antihistamines or, if suitable, a steroid nasal spray.

Another vote for beconase.. the becodefense one actually says on the box safe for pregnant and breast feeding women! Works well for me.. the trick is to use it first thing in the morning so it stops the symptoms developing

I tried every non medicated hayfever relief I could find and also beconase and it didn't even make a dent in my symptoms, gave in and started taking loratadine and I'm much better now. Really didn't want to take anything but couldn't manage on 4 months of 2.5 hrs sleep a night

My GP said loratadine or whatever it is that's in piriton are the preferred ones for taking in pregnancy. I would usually take from April to September but she advised to just take the tablets when I really really need it and to otherwise use a nose spray like PP have said
