Docs class me as a geriatric mother

Hi all, thanks for welcoming me to the group.
I am pregnant with my 3rd child, complete surprise but a good surprise. Thought my baby days were over. I have 2 older children aged 14 and 8.

Docs class me as a geriatric mother because I am 42. Should I be worried about this????

Also, I'm confused with how pregnant I am. My last period was 18th March. However my periods are always all over the place because I have polycistic ovaries. I did a pg test beginning of last week which was negative and then a week later I've done them and they're positive. I did a clear blue which said I was 1 to 2 weeks? Can anyone shed any light please.

Alas you are geriatric, 35+ I think.

Just be prepared - my very early kits of symptoms was twins, which at your age you're at increased chance of.

Best of luck

I was a "geriatric priva gravida". I was 34.

jytdtysrht · 08/05/2022 11:26

My mum was classed as this aged only 30 (obv decades ago)

hellrabbitishere · 08/05/2022 11:29

i was 36 when i had my dd and yes i agree its a horrible term , might be just a medical one , but its still horrible , at only 42 your not even near the 50 mark of being middle aged yet !! they will give you the extra care though which is good

WonderingWanda · 08/05/2022 11:32

I'm pretty sure that was on my notes for obe or both of my pregancies aged 30 and 33.

But average life expectancy isn't 100, its 82 so 41 IS middle aged.

PAFMO

Maybe it's time we looked at why the word "geriatric" has such negative connotations rather than the fact that doctors have used the correct medical word.

I've just been reading over the thread and that's a really good point, imo.

Guess there's always going to be some rude people everywhere.

OP, as I said above, I've just been reading back and I can't see where anyone has been "rude" or "negative".
Afaics, one person's post was misunderstood by another poster but wasn't negative, just factual.
What has seemed rude to you?

LaMarschallin · 08/05/2022 13:48

Perhaps I'm being unfair by saying "misunderstood" but it just depended on how one exclamation mark was interpreted.

Otherwise it seems a pretty cordial and supportive thread to me.

Nobody is being negative - it’s a medical term.

Not strictly true. A couple of posters have made judgmental remarks.

I misunderstood nothing. I objected to the tone of that poster’s remark as it was clearly judgmental about the OP’s age. And seeing as she was already pregnant, that seemed both unkind and unnecessary.

Fair enough; that's what you felt. It didn't read that way to me.

However, I still don't think there are "a few" or even "a couple" of posts on here that have been "negative", "rude" and certainly not "extremely rude" (quotes from posts above).

The OP asked:

and I think she's had reasonable and sensible answers.

That's all 🤷‍♀️
