Have to laugh as I've been stressing out today!

Got my bfp after a long 2 years of ttc and a mmc this year.

Managed to chase up and get the aspirin and progesterone I was advised to take.

Opened tablets box tonight and shocked at the size, then I read! 😱
It cheered me up and hope someone can have a laugh on me 😊

Haha! So glad you didn't eat it!
Though sometimes I wish they were (smaller) tablets rather than pessaries! Would be a bit easier!
I'm in a similar boat, got a bfp after 15 months TTC and an ectopic, chemicals and early miscarriage. First time taking progesterone.

Fingers crossed for you!

You can take the pessaries orally.

Bumbleflower · 06/05/2022 23:11

The leaflet for mine says not to take orally.

QuiltedHippo · 06/05/2022 23:12

Waxy!

LilacPoppy · 07/05/2022 00:37

@Bumbleflower yes but it’s fine to take orally . Leaflet says that because they are designed as pessaries it’s fine ( and advised if you have bleeding) to take orally.

Doggydarling · 07/05/2022 00:42

Lots of women take it orally including me, I'm on it as part of my hrt and taking it orally it helps with my sleep. I've had a few different brands and I've been able to take them all orally, weirdly the box I have now says it only to be taken that way (the pharmacist was hilarious trying to discreetly ask me was I inserting or swallowing).

Bumbleflower · 07/05/2022 02:33

I didn't know that! Interesting! Does the waxy coating not cause any digestive issues?

TooGiddy · 07/05/2022 03:40

I know people are saying you can take it orally and you probably can for HRT reasons etc but for pregnancy, it will have little effect if you take it orally and you do need to either insert it vaginally or in your bottom! They're not ideal. And wear pantyliners or you'll ruin all your underwear..!

dreamyunicorn · 07/05/2022 07:42

Oh I didn't know you could take orally?!

My leaflet says it's to be inserted only, hopefully it will work.

@Bumbleflower how far gone are you?
Was it easy enough for you to get the progesterone? I'm surprised how easy it was for me to get it from the Drs as they usually refuse anything same day!

@dreamyunicorn the issue with taking them orally is that they often cause unpleasant side effects that way....fatigue, headaches, nausea etc. I think most people get a bit constipated with them whichever way, but that's common in early pregnancy anyhow! There is also the question of whether the progesterone is absorbed as well orally.

I had to insert pessaries morning and evening. After the morning one I tried to lie down for a bit otherwise I had the feeling it all leaked out! The one at night was no problem since I inserted just before bed.

And yes....panty liners!!!!!!

LilacPoppy · 07/05/2022 11:26

@TooGiddy no mine were for ivf I took them vaginally but when I had spotting I was as told to take them orally.

TooGiddy · 08/05/2022 08:00

@LilacPoppy
That's so interesting. With mine they've always said to either insert them vaginally or in bottom - usually depending on the type as I've had both Utrogestan and Cyclogest. Cyclogest seems far more messy!

Aranciata · 08/05/2022 10:15

I've had Utrogestan for IVF and the consultant told me not to use it rectally.
When I was taking it for FET preparation they said I could take it orally then if I wanted but after transfer it had to ne vaginallly.

Yes you need panty liners but the pessaries are nicer than Crinone gel progesterone, it was like a sandy texture coming out.
