Are these any good? I like the look of it, I don’t like those cold plastic feeling changing mats that you can get anywhere.

I've never used one tbh I've never seen the point of them. I don't think I know any one that used one. I had one for the first baby but it was a faff getting it out or going uostairs to it, so I just changed them on the sofa or floor.

LittlemissMama67 · 06/05/2022 12:50

No I know they’re not completely necessary I just liked the look of it

I just bought a cheap one from whatever shop I was in that sold them, then just used a hand towel for changing. It didn't get used very long, until I just changed on my knee/floor/the bed etc.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/05/2022 12:54

Just checked the price and honestly, I'd save yourself 35 quid. That will sharp go on nappies/wipes etc.

rosie561 · 06/05/2022 12:58

I just have a regular plastic covered one then I lay an old towel on ot for warmth. Plus the amount DS has pooed when I'm changing him is unreal so it's great to just whip the towel off rather than putting the whole thing in the wash!

ohidoliketobe · 06/05/2022 13:01

Honestly, just get a cheap one plus a few hand towels. They'll be washed so frequently and loads easier (compared to unfastening the cover) and cheaper

QueenLagertha · 06/05/2022 13:02

I bought one in ikea for £15 to put on top of chest of drawers. I just put a small towel on top.

Floydthebarber · 06/05/2022 13:06

Yes, get a cheap one, use a towel. There were occasions when the changing mat and dc when in the bath to shower off particularly bad nappy explosions. They are wipe clean for a reason.

anywhichwaytoo · 06/05/2022 13:11

Honestly I just got a £10 (or £15?) one from John Lewis and kept it under the bed, then changed baby on the bed with the mat as and when needed.

Lockdownmummy · 06/05/2022 13:12

Honestly plastic-y and wipe clean is the way to go.

canyoutoleratethis · 06/05/2022 13:41

Agree with PP - you need to think about the practicalities first and foremost. The purpose of a changing mat is to deal with wee and poo - both of which come out when changing a baby. Nappy changing is messy business, so you want wipe clean. I never bothered with a towel, as DD never seemed bothered by the plastic, but you can use one if you're concerned about baby being cold. You can get some beautiful plastic ones though, if that's important to you. Check out 'The Guilded Bird'

The Ikea ones come with zip off covers in a towelling type material that doesn't feel cold and you can chuck it in the washing machine and put another one on. Perfect :)

£35 for a changing mat?!
Just buy a regular one & put a towel on top. Cheaper & easier to clean.

LittlemissMama67 · 10/05/2022 11:18

Found this one for £9 so got it today
