Anyone taken Progesterone for previous preterm labour?

I've been taking progesterone since 12 weeks due to my last 2 babies being born pre-term. The consultant has told me to stop taking it after 36 weeks which is next week. I'm a bit panicky that as soon as I stop I could go into labour! Has anyone been prescribed it and come off around 36 weeks? When did your labour start?

Following with interest as I've recently started progesterone due to a previous preterm birth and contractions in this pregnancy - long way off 36 weeks yet though! Am assuming you're also on the pessaries?

May I ask why you're previous two babies were born early? If you know of course! For me it's a mystery and I know that's true in a lot of cases! I'm only asking because if you do know it could give a clue as to how your body might react without the extra progesterone.

Remember though - it'll take a while for the extra progesterone to leave your system when you stop taking them, that's why they say to stop at 36 weeks x

@CoalCraft I'm not on pessaries. Just the progesterone.

There was no reason why my first 2 were preterm.

Ds1 was born at 32 weeks and ds2 at 36 weeks so not shocking early.

I just want to be prepared as I'm trying to work out what to do when I do go into labour. My first 2 I had very little warning and the labour was so quick the babies were born at home before assistance arrived.
This time round my partner is working up to an hour away and I've got 2 children at school to think about and no one to really help! 🙈

I had it in my last pregnancy and on it again this pregnancy. Last time I stopped it at 36 weeks, and although I did go to 1cm dilated within a week of stopping it, DD didn't arrive until 40+5.

I had it with my twins after losing my previous set of twins at 24w. I also ended up having a stitch as well which I had out at 34w+ 3 ish days which is when I stopped the progesterone (ID twins are usually delivered by 36w so thats why the timing is a bit different- I was conviced they were just going to drop out in the hospital after having the stitch out but I went another 5 days and then had to have a section because one was in an odd position!

Gosh that must have been scary having a 32 weeker at home! My labour was also very quick so not being able to get to the hospital in time is a fear of mine. Hope it all goes smoothly for you this time!

I wasn't aware they offered another way to take progesterone other than as a pessary? Is it a tablet for you then? If that's an option I may ask to switch as the pessary is grim lol

@CoalCraft

Having a 32 weekend at home alone was terrifying! Luckily paramedics arrived within minutes after he was born. I was in hysterics so I'm not sure what I'd have done if they hadn't!

Yes I'm taking a tablet form

I didn't know you could take a tablet either, I'm also on the pessaries, and am not a fan, will ask at my consultant appointment on Friday I think

I took the pessaries until 32 weeks with DD2. Didn’t go into labour until 40+2. My first came at 27 weeks so we were relieved !

Just to report back ladies, it seems the oral progesterone didn't work for me. My baby was born at 35+5. Very quick spontaneous labour. I was due to stop taking the tablets after 36 weeks
