My dh passed this infection to me just before Christmas. He is back to work and I am supposed to be excited and happy on my annual leave just before having elective C-section at the end of January. It has been for nearly 3 weeks now, I feel worse every day. I am coughing, lost my voice completely, constant headaches, sleepless nights, higher blood pressure, etc. I've been to minor illnesses nurse and she just recommended to stay inside and have lots of warm drinks.I feel really lost and scared- poor bump doesn't get much sleep with my coughs and every single rib of mine is hurting. Anybody had similar experience and can offer any advice?

No real advice, but was speaking to my friend today who is in exactly same situation health wise (and elective c-section end of Jan; it's not Lucy is it?? )None of the medication she's been given (which isn't much) help and she's suffering with sleep too (and dealing with 3 LOs). Massive sympathies and hugs, and just to let you know you're not alone . Maybe your midwife might be able to recommend something stronger than paracetemol (codeine?) that might help?

Thanks Diege. I am more or less the same but how surprisingly comforting to know that somebody else is having the same problem! My sympathy to you friend too.

I have had similar for ages now, it's just not shifting. The GP has given me menthol eucalyptus to steam inhale which has helped a bit. I have a section in 10 days so also feel daunted at the prospect of going into the whole thing feeling so rough!!

i had a cough that lasted 7 weeks - in the end had to have more investigations as DH was about to go in for chemo - they did a sputum sample (sorry if TMI) and it turned out to be a bacterial infection (I felt v. smug after all the GPs telling me that coughs are nearly always viral! )

they gave me antibiotics which thankfully cleared it up before my pelvic floor muscles gave up forever

ask to have more investigations done on the basis that by the time you have results back and then treated it you'll be due to give birth and anaesthetists do not like to treat people with respiratory infections

Great advice moominsmummy! One of 3 midwives I had to see during last 3 days (more to do with my high BP) recommended to ask doctor for some antibiotics to clear things up. While I was in maternity triage I've asked about something like that but they advised me to take only paracetamol! The same advice they gave to 3 or 4 ladies over the phone while I was under Sonicaid to do with different reasons- pains, etc. I wonder what would happen to British medicine if one clever scientist will discover some horrible side effect of paracetamol one day? It will be a disaster.....
