What do you think of these as DH and I have clear favourites and dont seem to be finding a compromise.

Oliver, Barnaby, Duncan, Joshua or Michael

Thanks. Not saying which I want as would like some honest opinions.

Oliver, Duncan and Michael - yes

Barnaby - ok

I quite like them all. Duncan is the one I would be most likely to use (despite lack of Scots heritage).

There are gazillions of Olivers and Joshuas (nice though they are).

I like Michael best.

paddingtonbear1 · 10/01/2008 18:21

Not so keen on Duncan. All the rest are good.

Susiemj · 10/01/2008 18:22

there aren't many michaels around in school these days. and it's a lovely name.

Hulababy · 10/01/2008 18:24

I like Oliver best - it was our choice if DD had been a boy.

Joshua is nice too but rather popular these days. I am not keen on it whenshortened to Josh either.

Michael is a fine name; friend's DS called this.

Not keen on the other two though/

KelaS · 10/01/2008 18:28

Personally like Michael best, it is my cousin's name or it would be on my list. Of the others I would go with Duncan or Joshua.

dancerandprancer · 10/01/2008 18:30

Thanks everyone. DH likes Barnaby, Duncan and Joshua. I like Oliver and Michael. Although I also think Barnaby would be different and cool, I am not sure it would go with our surname which begins with a B. Worried that Oliver is too common. Wish I had the nerve to go for something a bit more unusual like Barnaby, but worried what everyone will say.

Barnaby's my favourite. Lots of Olivers & Joshua's round here...

janeite · 10/01/2008 18:39

Oliver, Barnaby or Joshua (although this is very common I think) - please not Duncan! It just makes me think of "Macbeth"! I have never, ever met a real life Duncan. Michael is just dull imho. My favourite is Barnaby but Oliver is less cutesy if that makes sense?

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/01/2008 18:39

I like Barnaby and Duncan best.

I like Oliver too, but it's quite common atm.

janeite · 10/01/2008 18:40

Sorry crossed posts and just seen that Michael is one of your favourites. Obviously choose what you like!

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/01/2008 18:44

Ah, just seen your second post. Wouldn't choose Barnaby if your surname begins with B.

ninedragons · 11/01/2008 05:07

Love Duncan (Dougal is even better IMHO).

Oliver is lovely but there are 20 zillion of them around at the moment.

Like Barnaby, but could be odd with a B surname (I remember a Barnaby Ball at primary school who did attract some unkind sniggering).

Oliver, Joshua are a bit too common round here.

Michael is OK.

Duncan is a bit too 'Macbeth' for my taste. Once worked with a very nice Duncan though and it really suited him (think he was Scottish).

Mumblesmummy · 11/01/2008 10:43

I like Michael best

Peachy · 11/01/2008 10:48

barbaby I adore
Oliver is OK
Michael fine
joshua fine
Duncan- no not for me

But its what YOU like, not me
