12 Week Screening - High Risk Down Syndrome

Hello

I am 14 weeks pregnant after my third round of IVF, and my 13 week scan showed a 1 in 25 chance that the baby has Down syndrome. I had a NIPT blood test last week and am waiting for the results - absolute torture waiting for the call!

I was wondering if anyone had any positive outcomes after high risk screening? I have tried to find more information on inaccurate results after IVF treatment but nothing is clear and I am more confused. I feel like I’ve totally disengaged myself from this pregnancy until I get the results as I’m terrified it won’t continue.

Any advice/words of wisdom appreciated 🙂

Hi,

I’ve made an account with mumsnet after hearing it is great for support around a lot of things. I came across this thread and just wanted to pop my figures on to see of anyone had results around the same and what outcomes have been like. I am such an anxious person and a real worrier and the wait is killing me! I had NIPT bloods done on Monday and have been told to not expect a call before Tuesday this coming week!

1:86 risk for Downs
1:5000 for Edaward and Patau

Scan at 13+5 weeks and all looked good as per midwife/sonographer

NT measurement - 2.5mm
beta hCG MoM - 2.06
PAPP-A MoM - 0.31
Age: 25

Hi,
I was desperate for any information when this happened to me, I really sympathise with your anxiety.
i had a 1 in 13 chance of down syndrome. I also had a 2.5 mm nt measurement. I can’t remember the other things now.
I ended up having the NIPT I think it took a week to come back about this time last year. Everything ended up coming back completely normal. It was such a massive relief and I was quite happy with the low risk through the NIPT.
there is so much more chance that everything will be okay than that it won’t be. have everything crossed for you that everything will come back fine and you can continue to enjoy your pregnancy. Let us know how you get on. Xx

@Lizlizzy Thank you for replying! I’ve read so many positive outcomes with odds a lot higher than my 1:86 like yourself, so thank you for your story! I think it’s the waiting for results that gets you thinking too much into it. I will be sure to come on and post how my results go! Fingers crossed! xx

The wait is awful, I cried the whole time. It was such a shock to hear the screening. One of the best advice I was given as that the initial screening casts a very wide net. All kinds of things that don’t have anything to do with Down syndrome are in this net, but they also could be which is why they are there. One of my factors was higher htc, which can also have nothing to do with Down syndrome, but could indicate it. In my case it had nothing to do with it.
hopefully your results will be back before you know it. Good luck xx
