Self injection of clexane (bum or stomach)

I have to inject myself with clexane. I find on the left side of my stomach is incredibly painful and it's an ordeal when I do it that side. I didn't even do it right this morning as the pain was so intense. The right side is no problem at all. Is there anywhere I can self inject? The thigh? I don't have anyone else to do it for me.

I found certain areas on the stomach were fine and others were agony. It got worse as time went on and I ran out of space. I think you can inject in your thigh.

Talk to your clinic. They could suggest different needle size or look at your injecting technique. You can inject into your thighs, upper arm and stomach ( 5cm away from your belly button). Try to alternate areas and give your belly a few days off.

I chose to do all my Clexane injections in my belly as that's where I did all my IVF injections and had gotten use to it. Clexane does sting a bit more though. My IVF nurse had always said to find the fleshiest bit of you belly and to go there, so I went as close as I could get to my belly button (5cm as someone mentioned) and just did alternating sides every day. I did get DH to do all my injections as I couldn't stomach doing them myself and I found that made it easier.

I hated my clexane injections- got my DH to do it but it hurt so much more than when the nurses did them in hospital. I had them in my thighs so it can be done there

I had cleaned when I was immobilised with a bad break in my leg. I had to alternate it, one each side of stomach then each thigh/bum. It was only for 6 weeks but ended up sticking to legs as my stomach got too sore. I got my dh to do my arse as it's by far the biggest area (😜) and he's a doctor so was happy to do it.

As long as it's in an approved area, I think it's fine.

@Raindrops2015 Have you tried freezing the skin first?

I've been injecting it in my tummy since I found out I was pregnant (and now 28 weeks). I shove a packet of frozen sausages 😆😂 down my leggings onto my tummy for 10 mins each night and then inject myself and, mostly, it doesn't hurt.

I did mine in my thighs the first 2 times I had them, and alternated between each thigh and each side of my stomach but the ones I've been prescribed this time around are a different brand and only licensed for use in the stomach so I've been told, so I'd maybe check that they can go elsewhere first. No matter where I inject though, I always end up with hard lumps which can be painful Sad

I did them for the whole of my pregnancy and my consultant said to stick to my tummy. It was twice a day so finding space was tricky but I got used to it. Towards the end when my bump was quite tight I ended up doing the softer areas in front of my hip bones.

I’m sure you know not to rub it or touch it after you’ve jabbed, it makes the bruising worse.

Some people find icing the area before helps but I didn’t try it and ended up doing it just about anywhere including at festivals and on the train, it does get easier.

Thanks for the tips. I was told I'd need somebody to inject them into my thigh or my arm so I'm hoping they're approved sites. I do them in the morning and I'm sitting here dreading it. I've never had a problem with pain getting vaccines etc. This is so intense! I was wondering did I have more nerve endings on the left side because digestive system is there. There is such a stark difference to the right side.

Oh flip, 24 + more weeks of this 😬😬😬😬. Between that and the progesterone pessaries...

@Whatever00 the very first injection on my left side was carried out by the midwife and it was intensely painful. I was so pleasantly surprised when I did it myself (30 mins or so after fannying about) and it was easy. I think I am just really sensitive on that side. Maybe more nerve endings or something.
