Is saffron safe in pregnancy ? Been for a curry and it was sprinkled over the rice, I didn't have alot of it but none the less I'm worrying now after googling. I'm 17 weeks tomorrow btw

This is going to be a long pregnancy

Have you considered some help from the GP about anxiety?

HolyMoly22 · 01/05/2022 20:00

I've had to Google it so see what your seeing.

You will both be fine.

thunderonly · 01/05/2022 20:00

I already am having help and cbt. So i take it from the lack of responses to the question it's okay?

Google does say it can be unsafe I'm not being completely irrational

Bookmark this website. It’s all you need to know. Endless googling won’t help as there’s a lot of shite online.

GrowBabyGrow · 01/05/2022 20:05

Only place to be looking for info about what is/isn't safe during pregnancy is the NHS website OP. If you google every ingredient inevitably someone somewhere will have posted to say it is unsafe but important to remember that anyone can post anything on the internet without any actual robust scientific evidence or research so that's why it's best to just focus on what the NHS advises.

literally just googled this and I couldn’t find anything to back up when you’re saying. I think you’re looking for issues. Have you discussed your irrational anxiety with your midwife? I’d be worried this was bordering on something worse tbh.

thunderonly · 01/05/2022 20:16

Bordering on what worse exactly?
If you actually read my posts I've already stated I self referred to the gp at 8 weeks because my ocd and anxiety was through the roof due to previous loss and infertility. I'm now having therapy. I'm not perfect I have bad days and food can be a trigger.

Hotfudgebrownie · 01/05/2022 20:27

As you’ve stated you have OCD reassurance seeking and googling will make it worse as you are giving in to your compulsions. I’d suggest having a look into ERP therapy as it is the gold standard treatment for OCD. I do sympathise with you greatly and I know pregnancy can be a huge trigger for OCD.

I'm pregnant myself and have suffered a late loss previously. I understand it's an anxious time. From what I can see, saffron is safe. There are some mentions of it being considered unsafe when consumed in excessive amounts. As you just had some on a curry, this would definitely not be considered excessive. Based on this, if it was me, I would not be worrying myself. You will begin to feel baby moving regularly in a few weeks and this should help alleviate your anxiety as you will know they are well. Try to relax, I know it is v difficult.

thunderonly · 01/05/2022 20:42

Thank you so much to the posters who've been kind and understanding. Yes to the 'rational' person I may seem ridiculous and ott but to me it's very real and all consuming. I don't appreciate being made to feel like I'm mental or something because I'm far from it, just have some issues around ocd, anxiety and I'm worrying alot with this pregnancy due to some past trauma.

@Fizzyfish this is exactly what I've seen and what's worried me. But you're right, I had a small amount not buckets full of the stuff so I need to tell my irrational brain that and try and focus on something else. Thank you

The anxiety is normal after a trauma. Just be kind to yourself and keep doing what you can to look after yourself x

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/05/2022 21:15

I had horrific anxiety when I was pregnant and everything I worried about felt so real. I would try not to Google though as it feeds the anxiety

Bubbles021 · 02/05/2022 01:01

Just wanted to say I'm also pregnant with my second after losing my first baby at 33 weeks last year and completely empathise with the anxiety. I Google every food and every symptom because I'm terrified of losing my baby. I know I shouldn't, but sometimes it's just easier than fighting with my mind!
It is normal for our brains to catastrophise after these experiences, so although the anxiety is horrific to live with, it is normal.
Wishing you a happy and successful pregnancy 💖

thunderonly · 02/05/2022 07:38

So sorry for your loss.
I'm (selfishly) glad to know I'm not alone in how I can act sometimes, how worried I get, it makes me feel less silly.
I'm booked in to have my hair done next week and of course even worrying about that ! Hopefully the therapy will help me over the coming weeks
