Feeling Rubbish About Induction

Hi all,

I don’t even really have a question… I just want to share how I’m feeling. I’m currently typing this from my hospital bed on the maternity ward where I’ve just had a second pessary inserted to try and induce labour at 40+4 (due to gestational diabetes and borderline preeclampsia) because the first one didn’t really do anything to my cervix.

I feel so disappointed because the pessary has been in for 32 hours with basically no change. I know this isn’t uncommon at all and I know the process can take days but I did not expect to feel this disappointed in myself and in my body.

Just looking for someone else who feels or has felt the same. How did you make yourself feel better? I plan on just chilling out as much as I can for the evening although these tightenings are trying to put a stop to that!

Thanks everyone!

I had very little change to my cervix from the first pessary. After the second pessary my cervix softened but was still high. I felt I was going to be in for the long game but they gave me a gel next (which was given early evening) and that really started things off! I asked the midwife for her “expert opinion” and she thought they would be breaking my waters the following day after the gel but the gel caused my waters to break in the middle of the night (4am) and we were off! By 6:30pm I had my daughter in my arms.

I felt all sorts of emotions being induced: happy I was going to gave my baby in my arms; lonely because my partner could only visit 2hrs a day; glad I didn’t have to rush the 1hr to hospital after waters had broken. I put my headphones in and would listen to upbeat music, pull the curtains around and mime the words and dance - try to get me in an upbeat mood each morning. I would read my positive affirmations and just ask the midwives for their “expert opinion” all the time.

be kind to yourself; your body will know what to do and will start working at the right time. I was flabbergasted when they told me I was 2cm after my gel! I didn’t “feel” any different but something was working away down there.

sit back and enjoy being waited on. And congratulations in advance!

I hated the induction process. It didn't help that it was during a lockdown and DH wasn't allowed to stay with me till my waters broke. On day 4. It made me feel vulnerable. Once things really started happening I felt a lot better though.

I was induced 4 times.

It is so so so disappointing when nothing happens Flowers
