Pain all over bump 22 weeks

Just wondering if anyone has had anything similar and got any answers? I’m assuming it’s just one of those pregnancy things.

im 22 weeks with second baby. Last night I was woken up with severe pain across the whole of my bump. This lasted around 30 seconds. I continued to get more similar pains every few minutes for about half an hour. The pain itself started low down then spread across my whole bump. It was painful enough that I couldn’t talk and needed to breathe through it. I changed positions, which didn’t help. But getting up and having a wee seemed to calm it down. For 2 hours after I continued to get similar pains but they were less frequent and much less painful. Eventually they went off and I got back to sleep.

Havent had anything like it today. I called the midwife this morning and they weren’t concerned, I heard them talking in the background saying they thought braxton hicks. I had an irritable uterus in my first pregnancy, and sometimes got mild period pain with them. But never anything like this. Also didn’t really feel like I was getting tightening with the pain. it felt much too painful for round ligament and with the pain coming and going as it was it doesn’t seem to fit with that.

im higher risk for preterm labour so obviously that’s on my mind. If anyone has any insight would be much appreciated.

Brixton Hicks?

That's what the midwife suggested. These were really painful though. And I wouldn't say I got tightenings. Although I'm assuming at 22 weeks you don't feel the tightening as much as you do in 3rd trimester.

Hi OP I had the exact same thing happen today. Wasn't really tightening but this burning period pain type of sensation over my bump and into my back. It happened twice in an hour. I was working at the time and wasn't in a position to go lie down or anything. Once I got out of my work situation and got back to my car I had to really breathe through the pain.
I found that I felt better after having a wee. And I've felt baby wiggle about since then. I've put it down to braxton hicks but don't feel like my experience really matched the description on the NHS page. If that's what labour is meant to feel like then it's making me feel nervous for the real deal

Interesting that a wee seemed to calm yours down as well! I just didn't think braxton hicks were supposed to hurt. Feel like when I called the midwife they maybe thought I had a low pain threshold but it did feel very similar to the contractions I was getting with the pessary during induction! Who knows haha

I’ve been on/off having this since around 20 weeks. Also high preterm labour risk, but have been told things are going well this time around. I find that if I drink a ton of water (several bottles) and rest it does get better, and is gone by the next morning. It’s really scary when it happens though. I’m useless at feeling contractions, I had multiple preterm labour contraction experiences last pregnancy where I didn’t know what they were until I was getting a checkup and was told I was in labour again, and until I was about 2-3 hours off my DD being out I wouldn’t have known what they were or been able to measure them, so I’m completely unable to tell what’s Braxton Hicks vs normal, even though this is my second time. Sending some virtual hugs/hopes we’re all through this soon!

Madeleine85, have they just put it down to braxton hicks then? Reassuring to know it's not labour but it still really does hurt!

I had this at the same time as you. I went to the hospital and they checked me and the baby over. The baby has changed position which could have been a reason. And they also said gas, acid reflux and possible constipation so prescribed Omeprazole etc. the baby moved position a couple of days later and I haven't had problems since. But it was how you described. Pain all over bump that was too sensitive to even touch.

DisorganisedAlways111 thanks for replying. That's interesting. I hadn't thought about acid reflux. I'll try some gaviscon if it happens again. It really did feel like bump but I suppose everything is pretty squashed now, it could easily have been bowel!
