We are going away for 4 weeks while my husband works abroad to gran canaria. I will be 29 weeks flying out and 33 weeks travelling back, did anyone travel during this time and did you have to have a letter from your doctor as the airline said it might ask for one? Thanks

I flew at 35 weeks. I had a doctors letter with me as it’s not worth risking being denied boarding, but as with every other flight I’ve taken whilst pregnant of which there have been quite a few, no one asked for it.

@RandomQuest thanks for replying. I will get a letter then just to be on the safe side.

Get the letter. I have to carry liquid drugs snd sharps with me and am supposed to have a letter. I actually only had to produce it once in 18 years, and that was a domestic flight in Australia. But better safe than sorry!
I thought 32 weeks was the cut off so be sure to check with your airline.

Hi @Boopsy89 since you're out there for 4 weeks you may well have to find a doctor out there to give you an updated letter for the return journey!

Several airlines require a letter no more than 2 weeks from the flight.

Most airlines allow flying until 35w, with BA it's 36. However the issue is getting insurance to cover you. I couldn't find anything to cover me beyond 32 weeks for pregnancy related conditions and pre mature labour. If you apply for a GHIC card (new version EHIC) you are entitled to free nhs equivalent care within most EU countries - which includes childbirth, so worth checking if that applies in Gran Canaria.

@tuliplover I never even thought about there being a cut off point so will look into that thanks.

@Regenbogen22 ah right never thought about that thanks.

@nee22 I did think about the insurance...I've not heard of that card before so thank you will look into it a bit more.
