Sadly ive had a silent miscarriage and now wondering whether to take the pill or operation. Id rather have an operation but it could take weeks and i want to move on with my life i also have a wedding this weekend. Just wondering has anybody taken the pill? Was it super painful how long did it go on for etc? Really after some advice 🙏🏼

I'm so sorry you are in this situation.

Why would the op take weeks? I thought they did it fairly rapidly? X

I am so sorry you are going through this. I opted for the pill they insert inside, I didn't want to wait for the appointment or have to be on a ward with people having terminations, as much as that is 100% their right and on a normal day I wouldn't judge I knew that on that day I couldn't see that. It was painful as you have mild contractions before the bleeding starts but being comfortable at home helped. I bled heavily for a week and a half. My baby hadn't developed properly so i didn't really experience passing them so I'm not sure what that would be like. The plus side of the op is it may be over quicker I found I could T quite start to move on until the bleeding had stopped for me it didn't really feel over until then. Xx

I would recommend the op (have experienced d&c and natural miscarriage which I assume is more similar to the pill). At least the operation draws a line under things, less waiting anxiously for something to happen or not knowing if it’s finished or not. So very sorry you’re going through this 💐

gemmabrittonuk · 25/04/2022 21:29

@Hortensiateapot yer maybe its worth me waiting for that just to get it done in 1 day. Where you ok after?

Yes, had it twice and both times the recovery was good - only light bleeding and mild discomfort afterwards.

Sorry about your loss Op.
Are you in pain or bleeding? I had a wedding the weekend after I found out about my mc but I had absolutely no symptoms. So I decided to leave it until the following Monday so that I wouldn't be bleeding or anything at the wedding. I took tablet and it was all over within 2 days after that.
Hope you're OK 💐

gemmabrittonuk · 25/04/2022 21:50

@User65412 thank you good to know! Seems people experience differently with the pill i have no bleeding now so thinking sort it all out after the wedding at the weekend like you did!

So sorry OP xx
I took the pills and it was horrendous and didn’t bleed. Took them again a few days later and much less pain and bled but not totally. Had to have a scan two weeks later to check all was gone and it wasn’t so I had to have the operation. Taking the pills the first time was the worst part of the whole miscarriage for me. I’d go straight to operation if I was ever in that situation again without question.
Good luck x

@EmJay19 good to know god that sounds awful im so sorry. Yes ill go for the op and just wait for it, its not great not knowing how your body will react to a pill so id rather not do it now! X

I had an MVA while awake. This is a safer option to a D and C which carries a risk of asherman syndrome. A friend of mine got this after having a D and C and a MVA. She had to have expensive surgery to remove the scar tissue and its success rate isn't great. If you could cope with the pills I would go with that as a first option. I was the same as yourself, wanted it done with. Its such a traumatic agonising time. Thinking of you. Sorry this has happened.

Hi OP. I'm sorry you are in this situation and I'm so sorry for your loss. I had the pills. They worked as they should for me. I started getting strong pains about 4 hours after insertion at the hospital. This lasted for around 90 minutes while I bled and eventually passed the sack. Within 15 minutes of passing it the pains reduced to what I would call mild period pains; I cuddled up in bed and watched easy tv. I lightly bled for around 3 weeks after.

It is absolutely your decision; go with your gut.
