I'm sure you can get it if your household income is under around 15500 a year.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 09/01/2008 20:50

i was on tax credits and was awarded the full amount, but I am a lone parent so that might have made a difference

rdk · 09/01/2008 20:50

Do you qualify for free prescriptions, etc? If you do that means that you are not on the higher level of tax credits and are eligable for the grant. (Or it did when I was claiming, but that was 4 years ago.)Ask a midwife, they should be able to help.

redadmiral · 09/01/2008 21:06

Sorry - just re-read your post. I think if you get free prescriptions you are on the HIGHER level of credits, and should get the grant.

BITCATKSTHJT · 09/01/2008 21:12

Yes u should be able to get it. I had it with my daughter and we were on tax credits, and we were both working, although i was on maternity leave. You might not automatically get the full 500. Anythings a bonus right! It depends on your earnings as to how much you get. You have to be recieving the highest family element, won't hurt to try, you just send the form with your last tax credit notice, at about 29weeks. I think your sis is probably right!

DaisyMoo · 09/01/2008 21:15

You can get it if you get Child Tax Credit at a level higher than the family element ie more than £545 if you already have a child and apply whilst you're still pregnant or more than £1090 once the baby is born.

rdk · 09/01/2008 21:22

sorry could someone help me out how do u know then if ur on the higher rate i get working tax of around £60 a week, not to sure if i should get free precriptions but i have always ticked that i do get free precriptions

you would usually recieve an excemption card through the post, it's white with black print, from nhs.if u look on your award notice it should say what you are getting for this award, total for the year, (child tax credit, not working tax).

DaisyMoo · 09/01/2008 21:29

If you have a child over 1 and you get more than £545 a year then you will get a maternity grant. If you have a child under 1 then you need to be getting more than £1090 a year.

If you're getting £60 a week you should definitely qualify.

BITCATKSTHJT · 09/01/2008 21:33

i think you should get a form fill it in and send it off if you are 29weeks plus, won't give it till then. from the comments i would say you will get it

rdk · 09/01/2008 21:34

daisymoo - any ideas if we would get it? we get tax credits including disability element but then this is reduced to 0 due to our income

rang around the social fund/job centreplus/tax credits helpline yesterday and nobody seemed to know! should i just apply and hope??

DaisyMoo · 09/01/2008 23:05

Do you get any child tax credit at all? Even if you don't get the working tax part of tax credits, if you're getting the amounts I mentioned above in child tax credit you should still get it. If you're pregnant the amount you get may increase after your baby is born, so sometimes you need to wait until after the baby is born to claim it. The rules are explained here
