I slipped on a pile of seagull poo of all things and came down hard on my knee and shoulder and have a bit of a bruise starting there. Thankfully I didn't hit my tummy but I'm a bit worried in case I've knocked anything loose so to speak. I have been feeling nauseous all day and just threw up for the first time in any pregnancy. Do I need to speak to a GP or is that an overreaction for a minor fall? If I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't think of calling them, but I don't know now.

I've no personal wisdom I can share I'm afraid but I'd phone NHS Direct for advice. Don't ever put off calling them that's what they're there for 💖

Very likely nothing to worry about at 7 weeks, especially if there was no trauma to your pelvis/abdomen. I took several tumbles during my pregnancies (including a spectacular total wipe out on ice at 25 weeks with DC #3), but always found this article reassuring:

Sounds like your knee and shoulder took the brunt of it. I've had a few knocks and falls during pregnancy and when I spoke to my mw they always reassured me that baby is well cushioned in there, it takes quite a lot to affect them, especially earlier on. Baby should be just fine. As for the vomiting, you're round about the point this usually starts. Mws are usually only concerned if you've had any bleeding, abdominal pain or unusual discharge after a fall. Sometimes it just helps to get reassurance from them though, definitely give their advice line or mau a call if it will help you

Hi @MariaDingbat, this happened to me when I was 6 weeks pregnant this time last year, although I actually did land on my stomach.

To cut a long story short, NHS direct overreacted when I phoned them and sent me to my local walk in centre. The nurse there rolled her eyes and said I shouldn't have been sent there but referred me to the early pregnancy unit for a scan anyway. After lots of anxious waiting, I was told that there is very little danger if you hit your stomach early on as the baby is buried deep into your pelvis. The time to worry is if it happens in the third trimester.

On the plus side, I got to see the heartbeat early so I had that extra reassurance, so if you are worried you could ask if that's an option for you?

Thank you all for your reassurances, I'll keep an eye out for any abdominal pain but hopefully everything is okay. I am starting to feel a bit bruised and stiff but can't take any ibuprofen so it's ice packs and a hot water bottle for me.

I forgot to add an important part - I had light spotting throughout my pregnancy which was why it was flagged up as urgent by NHS direct (it was actually hormone related so nothing to do qoth falling over)

I was like a ninepin when I was pregnant, spent more time on the ground than standing up. Babies fine!

I fell straight onto my bump at 8 months and it took the full force of my weight…about 14 stone ..bruised bump included 😳Got myself checked out in the Scottish highlands…my daughter is a very healthy 28 year old…really don’t worry! At 7 weeks the foetus is very protected behind your pelvis!

Frazzled2207 · 20/04/2022 23:03

At about 8 weeks pregnant I fell off my bike really hard. I felt so shook up I threw up but nothing else happened.
Happened to have mw appointment later that day and she said that at that stage the embryo is very very well cushioned. Ds turned out fine.

Try not to worry. I got knocked over by a dog at 27 weeks pregnant so went to get checked (rhesus negative too so wanted to check if I needed the anti-d injection). All was fine the Consultant said it would literally take a hard kick in the stomach to do any real harm. Baby is very well protected and especially so in the earlier days.

I fell in what sounds like an almost identical way a couple of weeks back when I was also around 7 weeks. I was out of the country so couldn't visit GP - although I wasn't too concerned as my knees took the hit. I had my booking appointment the day we returned home, at which point I was sent for an early scan at 8 weeks (for unrelated reasons). All good and healthy. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you start feeling any new pains or bleeding.
