Help with baby sleeping arrangements

Hello I'm going to be a FTM soon. I am going to get a next to me crib and I would like him to be in the same room as us until he is at least 12 month. My question is, most next to me cribs are only suitable for up to 6 month so what do people put babies in in their room from 6- 12 month? Our room isn't big enough for a full size cot . Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance x

A cot in their own room.
I moved DD when she was almost 9 months and getting too big for her Moses basket (she was premature & tiny it she would’ve moved at 6 months).

Ds2 didn’t give us a choice, he refused to sleep anywhere but next to me in our bed until he was almost 1.

If your baby is too big for a next-to-me at 6 months, they're likely to also outgrow any intermediate sleepers before 12 months. Maybe move baby into a full-size cot in their room at 6 months, and get a mattress for you to sleep on the floor until you're ready for them to sleep alone?

Next to me forever

Travel cot?

Favourodds · 18/04/2022 21:55

Circumstances meant my daughter was in with me until 16 months. She was in a next to me to 9 months and then her own cot (mini cot) at the end of the bed after that.

Yes ours hated the next to me. Went from Moses basket to cot in our room, then cot in own room. They also hated co-sleeping! Think it depends on the baby really. They’ve all been really good sleepers, we put a decent mattress in the cot so maybe it was that. You’ll know when to move them - when you all start disturbing each other!!

The next to me became a bit dangerous after 7 months as DD started pulling up.

If you have another room, then use it for a full-size cot. We used the travel cot in our room for a very short time, once the next to me had stopped being safe.

Skip the next to me crib and attach a full-size cot to the side of your bed, if you have room...

Whether they stay in your room will depend on your baby though. Mine woke frequently and I breastfed - much easier to do if they're right there beside you.

We have our DS 5 has he need supervision in the night and our DS 6 months in our room we had to move the wardrobes etc out for fit a single bed, full size cot and a double bed. Dd 15 has our wardrobes in her room and the chest of drawers are in our hallway. Before this I was sleeping in the front room with the baby.
I wish dd could share with one of the boys but it wouldn't be fair on her.

Chicco zip and go. From day 1 until 14/15 months

BertieBotts · 19/04/2022 07:09

The next to me is useless if you want to room share for a year. You get more use out of a normal cot converted. Do you really not have 60cm next to your bed? Can you rearrange furniture?

Yaty · 19/04/2022 07:47

We used a travel cot from about 5 to 7 months in our room then moved to full size cot in babies own room after that

EllieJai44 · 19/04/2022 14:47

Have a look at the Tutti Bambini XL it can be a next to me and then also transforms into a normal cot but I think it's a little smaller- we had to move both ours out of our room by 8 months, mainly due to them sleeping better on their own and also because of size and being able to climb out of the next to me cots

Next to me until 7 months then a cot in his own room

Lavenderlid · 19/04/2022 16:21

We'd a cot from about 7 months till just after a year - there really wasn't room for it (I had to move it to get to my chest of drawers) but at least was only for 6 months as we used a bedside crib before that.
