Pregnancy diabetes

I'm 32w pregnant with my DS and just got the result for the 2-hr glucose test, which says it's 8.8. My consultant told me it's over the upper range, i.e. I have the pregnancy diabetes. Anyone has an idea how to intepret this?

I read online that in the 2-hr test, 1hr after drinking glucose, the benchmark should be 10 mmoL/L, then 2-hr afterwards it's 8.6 mmoL/L. So is mine 8.8 an average of the two??

Many thanks

Hi,
I had gestational diabetes and was subject to weekly monitoring by the hospital. My GTT was 8.3. 7 is now considered the cut-off point, so 8.8 is over the safe limit. However, they say with a score of less than 9 you should be able to manage via diet control and regular blood sugar tests three times a day . I know it's all daunting at first and a bit scary - but it meant for me that I weighed less straight after birth than before I got pregnant - hence back in normal clothes with 10 day old health baby boy. If you need any help or advice there is plently around

i've stopped most of the fruits, and honey+lemon water in the morning that I've drinking for years... My problem is that I don't exercise now DH is forcing me to take a 30min walk everyday after dinner. Is that enough?

3x blood tests per day is scary...

I didn't exercise at all as already had two children to look after whilst pregnant. You will find things like hoovering, loading/unloading washing machine etc will burn off the sugar . Also remember not to eat too late in the day. As for the blood sugar tests they are only a quick pin prick and all done - it becomes habit after a while. If you manage diet well the doctors will not interfer with your pregnancy too much just fornightly growth scans and midwife appointments. Diet control also means they won't induce you early unless baby gets too big. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions.
