Does anyone with morning sickness only feel better when they ARE eating?

Or is it just me? I am going to have to be careful or I will end up being the size of a house. And I feel sick all day every day at the moment.

yes! in the first three months i could hardly go for half an hour without a snack to appease the awful nausea! it does ease off in second trimester though and settles down. always had to eat breakfast as soon as i got up mor i was a mess. i tried my hardest to go for healthy foods mainly, especially complex carbs which take longer to digest, as they tended to keep the sickness away for longer. still managed to gain 3 stone in the end , luckily most went pretty quickly after dd born though....

Oh me too - right now! I'm 6 weeks pregnant and can't go much longer than an hour and a half. Thank you so much for this thread as my DH has turned into the food police and gets upset every time I eat anything that isn't at a scheduled mealtime. I've shown him this thread and it has made him much happier - thanks everyone, I think you've just made my life much easier. Sometimes, DH just needs evidence from someone else (probably because my MN is very apt )

Yes bohemianbint, I had hoped to crave celery and tomato juice but it wasn't to be. Can't remember the last time I ate my usual avocado and olive salad.... oh yeah, I threw up. I weighed 76 kilos at my scan today...and counting.

eidsvold · 10/01/2008 04:57

i found with dd1 - get up, be sick and have a bacon sarnie at morning tea time - was fine for the rest of the day. WIth dd2 - just grazing all day long made it better - same with dd3. The minute I felt hungry I would be nauseous.

karney · 10/01/2008 13:14

Oh yes, I can identify with you all. I'm sitting here just now stuffing my face with toast and buter and glasses of milk (never drink milk normally). I was sick a lot last wk but this wk it's just constant nausea which is only eased when I eat. I'm 8 wks and already have put on weight. The only really healthy things I've taken a shine to are tangerines and apples Hurray!

ktpie · 10/01/2008 15:50

This is exactly how I have been, as soon as I start to feel hungry the queasiness hits and doesn't seem to be satisfied with just a small amount of food either.
Thought it had passed over christmas (am 16 weeks) but as soon as I came back to work it was back, typical!
And I always really fancy whatever I haven't got handy, and the stuff I have got makes me feel even more queasy.

CORNFLAKE2 · 29/01/2008 20:17

I am being sick every other day and couldn't keep my tea down today. I can't distinguish between nausea and hunger much at the moment. I am unbelievably tired, going to bed at 7pm with my 3 1/2year old is getting more frequent. Please reassure me I'll feel well again soon! I'm nearly ten weeks and the sickness was nothing like this with my first. My house is a tip and I'm limping to work!!

Artichokes · 29/01/2008 20:19

When I was pregnant I had morning sickness for months. Eating was the only time I felt OK. So I ate. And ate. And ate. And over nine months I gained 5.5 stone...

whomovedmychocolate · 29/01/2008 20:21

Yep, I was STARVING and nauseous all at the same time. I found drinking cold water with whatever I was drinking helped this time though - last time I had put on 2 stone in the first trimester, this time only about 7lbs.

Yup the only thing that stopped the constant nausea (but no actual sickness) was regularly eating beige/ carby food.

Thankfully that tailed off mostly about 12 weeks though

toomuchtimereadingthreads2016 · 17/01/2017 12:22

Was exactly the same. Knew from experience that even if I wasn't at all hungry or fancying food, I needed to make myself eat something because would feel 100x worse on an empty stomach! Started feeling better at 10w and it went away :)

oliversmummy26 · 17/01/2017 13:32

I'm so pleased I'm not the only one! I am 7 weeks today and been suffering from constant all day long nausea (not been sick yet) and the only time it stops is when I'm eating. I am loving Morrisons ham salad sandwiches at the moment, just finished one and ready for another already! I was munching on a kitkat while reading through this thread and as soon as I stopped felt sea sick again!

Trying sea sickness bands today which seem to be taking the edge off a little, but will try chewing gum I think..I already look like I did with DS at 20 weeks I'm so bloated, really hope this calms down in a few weeks or I will be the size of a palace by then!

NeverNic · 17/01/2017 21:56

Yep I had to eat or sip weak squash constantly for the first few weeks. My all day sickness then became night sickness about the 10 week mark which lifted around 14wks. I weighed more at 8wks than I did at my first scan! I didn't start putting weight on until I started eating normally. Though I then had heartburn and BHs so normal eating only lasted until 22ish weeks!

Ginger made me sick. Cheese was my saviour, especially bland plastic cheese. Babybels I loved.

I then had smell / food adversions for the remainder of my pregnancy plus heartburn and

NeverNic · 17/01/2017 21:57

The food issues lasted well after baby arrived.

mymatemax · 17/01/2017 22:02

Yep, ready salted crisps or rich tea biscuits. I just nibbled constantly.

kathmacc · 17/01/2017 22:12

My husband still can't eat a mars bar after watching me wolf down 4 because "I suddenly didn't feel sick anymore" - in my defence had been sick for FIVE MONTHS! And yes I did chunder 30mins later x

eurochick · 17/01/2017 22:51

Yep. And if it wasn't beige, I wasn't interested. Meat made me heave. Fruit and veg held no appeal. I wanted dry crackers, toast and things like that. It got better in the second tri - I then craved fruit. Meat still made me heave though.

StarUtopia · 17/01/2017 23:27

I ate as it was the only way I wouldn't be throwing up all the time..

4 stone later...

2 years later i still have one last stone to go.

Definitely be careful! Have you seen an osteopath?

MoonshineJungle · 18/01/2017 05:24

The initial first eating of the day was always the worst but after that, kept snacking every time I felt the sickness twinge and it worked! Seemed to only be able to manage plain flavoured foods though, ginger nuts where a big no for me!

TriJo · 18/01/2017 09:37

With my DS I found that if I kept having light snacks I felt less sick, funnily enough I didn't put on any weight until 20 weeks but piled it on after that.

1004Rise · 18/01/2017 09:48

Yes this was me, haven't put on a huge amount of weight either (23 wks today) Unfortunately I seem to have switched from eating to keep the nausea at bay to eating to keep the heartburn away ConfusedHmm

Mrsleighdelamare · 18/01/2017 16:10

Another yes, if I got even a tiny bit hungry I'd feel horrible, although luckily I wasn't often actually sick. This lasted for the whole nine months with DS1 and DS2.

I just went with the 'little and often' approach, although it wasn't always very little. Lots of cheese sandwiches and also fresh tomatoes on toast - it had to be savoury.

SkyLucy · 18/01/2017 16:23

Yes! I ate and ate and ate during the first 16 weeks or so. Crap stuff too, like biscuits, bread, cheese, crisps and Coca Cola. NOT advisable but I couldn't bear much else, and it did seem to help the sickness!

I'm now 36 weeks and have put on two stone, so not a complete disaster, although I am trying to be healthier, and will certainly be hitting WW when bubs arrives! Feel I need some control back!

Gardenbirdy · 18/01/2017 21:36

Oh god yes, this is me at the moment! The only time I don't feel sick is when I'm eating. I'm a bit disgusted with myself to be honest. With my first pregnancy a couple of crackers would do it, but this time they just don't cut it. What with Christmas too I feel like an elephant already (12 wks at the moment). Chewing gum didn't help, after about 2 chews I just feel sicker!
