Are these gestational diabetes symptoms?

I have had uti symptoms for about 8 weeks now, since 20 weeks pregnant roughly. In the past several days, I’ve been drinking a lot of water. I’m not fond of water, but when I drink it now it’s as if it all just disappears so quickly… it’s as if I haven’t drank in days, that’s how thirsty I feel. I drank a litre of water in the space of 15 minutes. I am urinating more often too, I feel the urge to have a wee and barely anything comes out. Especially when I’m out walking, it’s probably the baby just putting pressure on my bladder but it’s becoming a problem.
I have had glucose in my urine a few times in the past several weeks but it comes and goes. My 28 week appointment is in 2 days so hopefully they’ll test for gestational diabetes then?

Hi I believe GD has no symptoms, the usual diabetic symptoms are not GD symptoms.

They won't do the GD test at your 28 week appointment, it'll need to be booked. I have to go to my local hospital for my GD test when I'm 26 weeks. You'll need to fast then drink a special glucose drink then have another blood test in 2 hours. Mention it to your midwife when you go to your 28 week appointment

Glucose in your wee is usually a sign - did the midwife follow up when that happened? Ask to be checked at your next appointment for sure!

Although worth noting that symptoms of GD aren't that common (I had none, only discovered I had it at 36w due to abnormal growth leading to blood sugar testing...). So your symptoms could defo just be normal pregnancy thing.

What is the midwife said when you have had glucose in your urine? Or when you mentioned the uti symptoms? The Glucose Tolerance Test is a lengthy appointment so they would book this separately from your 28 week appointment. I had one booked after one instance of glucose in my urine in my last pregnancy.

I had GD and had no symptoms (and no glucose in urine). It doesn’t usually start until a but later (between 24 and 28 weeks I think but it is possible to have it earlier). I would definitely speak to your midwife now about your symptoms though if you haven’t done so already - need to be careful with UTIs in pregnancy and she can advise if you should do the glucose tolerance test.

I thought that they tested all women for GD routinely at around 26 weeks. Either way it's a separate appointment to your 28 week midwife appointment. To be honest in terms of symptoms I think it could be GD or a normal part of pregnancy. Unless GD is very severe it usually doesn't have any symptoms although glucose in urine would be a red flag I'd have thought. Defo raise it with your midwife, I imagine they will organise a glucose tolerance test and likely a blood test. Either way it will give you some piece of mind. In the meantime, you might like to look up a GD diet as alot of GD is controlled by diet alone. It's essentially watching the number of carbs you consume as well as sugar.

I was tested at 28wks but at a specific GD glucose tolerance test appointment, takes about 3hrs.
I didn't have any symptoms, tested because I was high BMI. But some do have symptoms, glucose in urine, thirsty and weeing frequently.

I think GD testing is done if you have a family history of diabetes or you have a BMI over 30 at booking. However the glucose in the urine would be a big red flag that needs to be investigated further. Tell the midwife your symptoms and ask for a glucose tolerence test. As others have said seperate appointment at the hospital.
