Pre-eclampsia in 2nd pregnancy?

I'm getting a little ahead of myself as we're not planning to try for our second until next year but I was wondering if anyone had confirmed pre-eclampsia in their first pregnancy and then went on to have a second pregnancy (either where it occurred again or didn't)?

I was diagnosed with it in Feb at 36+2 and it got very severe very quickly resulting in me being induced a few days later. I then had to continue taking blood pressure tablets until approx 6 weeks pp as my blood pressure wouldn't come down.

I'm now worried about getting it again if we have a 2nd child and potentially getting it earlier in pregnancy.

I just wondered if anyone had similar experiences and if so what was done differently in your second pregnancy?

I didn’t have it in my second, in fact I had low blood pressure. I was monitored more closely though and had growth scans each month.

Yes. I did. First time around I had developed pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks and admitted immediately onto the antenatal ward. Had DD1 at 38 weeks going into labour naturally.

Less than two years later I spoke to my GP/same midwives and said I wanted to have another child. I asked whether I would get it again. They said I had no more risk than anyone else. Fell pregnant quickly and pre-eclampsia diagnosed at 25 weeks. From that point on I was told to expect to be either admitted or induced. Pregnancy continued with me having to go in to hospital two to three times a week and stay for a morning/afternoon/whole day whilst they monitored me. It was incredibly stressful. I started maternity leave at 27 weeks. My husband's work was totally inflexible. We have no family here on either side. Sometimes I had to take DD1 with me which the hospital didn't like. I bought lots of tiny clothes (DD1 was 5lbs 5oz at 38 weeks, very sleepy, lost 15% body weight, readmitted) and tried to prepare myself for a really premature baby. DD2 was eventually born 5 days before her due date weighing 7lbs 1oz. Natural, quick labour, no time for pain relief. No problems feeding. I felt back to normal within a couple of hours. So it all turned out fine in the end.

In both cases the main concern was the protein in my urine. I did have high blood pressure but that was controlled with medication. Both babies had jaundice.

I had it with my first at 36 weeks, emcs at 36+6 and 7 weeks of meds after. Didn't have it with second or third pregnancies.

Yes I had it on my second. Nothing in blood or urine but at 34 weeks I went to my gp and she nearly died when she saw how swollen I was so I was sent straight to the hospital. I was kept in overnight for observation as protein in my urine sample and my waters actually broke spontaneously that night(still ended up with a c section). I had a less severe dose that time and I was on less meds than the first time, I still ended up staying 8 nights which was better than the first time which was an 11 nights stay after the birth. On baby no 3 not one trace of pre eclampsia

I had it in my first pregnancy and didn’t have full blown pre eclampsia in the second and third but did have high blood pressure and was medicated for it towards the end
Had lots of extra scans and checks (as had IUGR in first one due to the pre eclampsia/high BP) which was reassuring

Yes me. Was on aspirin in first pregnancy and had to go in twice weekly for monitoring. Dd born by emcs.
2nd pregnancy I stopped aspirin at 36 weeks and was admitted to antenatal ward at 36+3 with pre eclampsia.
This time I’m on aspirin again. Currently 22 weeks and waiting to see. Consultant said the chances are lower this time, as same partner and a few other factors that I’ve forgotten.

I had pre-eclampsia in both pregnancies. Both times I was taking aspirin. Both times it was very mild, with only symptoms high BP, proteinuria, and bloods. Both times BP started becoming high around 34 weeks. Both times admitted to hospital at 36 weeks (when liver enzymes start going high). Both times BP well controlled with medication. Both times induced at 37 weeks. Both times baby was mildly jaundiced.

I had more check ups in my second pregnancy than a STM+ would usually get, but it's the same schedule as it is for FTM, so no real difference. I didn't get growth scans in my second pregnancy when I did with my first, which I found odd. I guess it's because the PI readings were high in first pregnancy, but not in second. Both babies were very well grown for their gestation with DC1 being 7lb 5 (3.315kg) at 37+1, and DC2 being 8lb 1 (3.675kg) at 37+6.

I was told by the consultant I had ~1 in 5 chance of getting pre-eclampsia a second time. It's really good to hear a PP didn't get it with DC3.
