IVF pregnancy anxiety, weekly scans or not?

Hi all,

I am currently 11 weeks pregnant and my prenatal anxiety is sky high at the moment. I had a scan at 9 weeks 4 days and all seemed fine but Id like another scan at 11 weeks before my NHS scan which is at 12 weeks 5 days. Did anyone have this many scans?

I didn't, because when I was honest with self I knew no amount of scans would be enough. As soon as I'd left I'd be worried something had happened and want another.

No but I understand your anxiety. I had 7 miscarriages before my successful pregnancy and used a fetal Doppler daily from 10 weeks.
Once you get to 20 weeks and feel regular movement you will probably feel better. Congratulations on your pregnancy xx

I had a scan at 6 weeks both times and the nhs 12 week scans. The lead up to each scan actually made my anxiety way worse. I'd think carefully.

I would try to resist if you can. No amount of scans will ever be enough to ease the anxiety, in fact it will probably make it worse. I would focus my energy on finding ways to manage the anxiety. I know that sounds impossible but would be a much better use of your time/energy and money. I also wouldn't buy a doppler for the same reasons.

I had 5 scans between week 5 to week 9 but as you know this wouldn't change anything and pregnancy didn't last. Also people might find this crazy I actually looked into buying an scan machine myself and do it at home daily - my husband nearly passed out at this idea. I think if I can get pregnant again which we are hoping to start IVF ASAP I would still do weekly scan just to have sth to look forward to every week... This is a personal choice and many friends chose to have just the standard scans even though clearly they could afford weekly scan.

We were doing a lot but now I'm spending the money on perinatal counselling instead. I still want to be scan all the time though and feel like I'm going mad. Twenty one weeks now

As someone who has had 10 scans (7 not medically necessary) I would try to limit how many you have. They are harmless but mentally I found it actually didn't help me. Until I started feeling movement I would feel reassured for like an hour then just start panicking about the next one. If I have another baby I think I would have the 2 nhs ones and potentially one at some point before 12 weeks. But no more. It is up to you though.

I'm following.

I'm 4 weeks I believe, panicking, worrying, and taking blood tests every 3 days, privately. I don't know how to accept or deal with it either...

I found that the lead up to the scan and the scan itself gave me something to look forward to, but in terms of alleviating anxiety, the moment the scan was finished I was back to square one again. I can't think how to phrase it less harshly, but if something is going to go wrong, scanning won't make any difference.
Good luck though OP xx
