Hiya.
Hubby and I both early 40’s and ttc baby no 3. Currently cycle 4.
Other 2 kiddies (8+4) and 1 other pregnancy which ended in a miscarriage, all conceived in first month of trying.
Both dh and I are a healthy(ish) weight (maybe a couple of lbs more than I’d like to be but defo not overweight) eat a lot of veggies and protein and home cooked food and have active lifestyles. I don’t ever drink anything containing caffeine either.
We both enjoy a few drinks at the weekend (of course I’ve always stopped when pg) but I’ve recently been reading that this can stop you conceiving.
Has anyone had any joy falling pregnant once quitting the booze?
Also, has anyone else conceived 2 babies really quickly then found it took a lot longer over 40?
Thank you x

No. I rarely drink and needed IVF in my 20s to conceive.

Nikki037297 · 14/04/2022 18:02

No I didn’t because we were not trying for a baby so we go out on weekends for meals and have a few drinks generally take turns so they other can drive. So I was still having vodka when I got pregnant With out realising. I think the problem could be your age rather than the occasional drink

The opposite for me, after 13 months the month I conceived we had gone on a couple of very boozy European city breaks!

Took us about a year both times. It doesn't come easily for a lot of people, you've been lucky with your previous pregnancies!

I think that’s it. I’m so incredibly fortunate that it happened so quickly the first 2 times that I’d not considered that it may not happen for us at all now because of my age x

I think you’re right but it won’t do me any harm To cut down anyway. Had a couple of really boozy months due to holiday and celebrations so a detox definitely won’t hurt!

Please, please don’t apologise in the least.
I actually read my post back earlier and realised just how insensitive it sounded. I tried to take it down but couldn’t. I’m not sure how to do that.
I’m really annoyed with myself for what I wrote.
I know how incredibly fortunate I am to have what I do and I honestly am thankful every single day.
I think what I was trying to say was that being the age I am, I’d prepared myself for potentially the likelihood of a more complicated pregnancy, diabetes and increased rate of miscarriage. However, being that I was so fortunate previously I, somewhat naively, failed to consider that this might not happen for us now due to my age.
The realisation was more the kick in the teeth, not the duration as I know wholeheartedly that many many people struggle ttc for incredibly long periods.
I’m so pleased to hear that you’re pregnant and hope you’re doing well.
Thank you for your post. Not harsh at all. X[/quote]
Thank you. I never know if I'm being oversensitive about this. Your feelings are of course valid xx

@Holls81 very similar to you: I conceived babies number one and two first go. Then baby 3 took 6 months. I drank but limited alcohol while ttc. Current pregnancy took 7 months. The month I conceived, I didnt touch alcohol during the tww. Might be a coincidence though. You could try cutting down or avoid completely just during the tww. Good luck!

Moonshine160 · 14/04/2022 21:17

No, I found the opposite happened.

It took a lot longer to conceive DC2 in comparison to DC1. I fell pregnant the month that I relaxed a bit more and drank a lot more than I should have! (It was over Christmas I might add).

Holls81 · 15/04/2022 20:06

@Betseyrov I have heard this! A lot of research suggests the tww is the time to avoid.
Thank you for this x
