Surgical miscarriage removal 3 days before wedding?

I was meant to be 9 weeks pregnant with twins, but had a missed miscarriage. One stopped developing at 5 weeks and the other 6 weeks. I took the medical pessaries, they didn’t fully work, so I had to take a second dose, they haven’t fully worked. So next week 3 days before my wedding I’m having the EPRC done under general anaesthetic. Just wondering if this is a good idea so close to wedding?

It’s usually a minor procedure, done as a day case, so physically and medically it wouldn’t be a problem, OP, but I am concerned about the emotional after effects. Are you sure you could cope with going from such heartbreak to trying to have a happy wedding, in just 3 days?

Indoorcamping · 13/04/2022 17:18

I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

LASandOtto · 13/04/2022 17:19

Very sorry OP.

I had an ERPC in 2019 and I felt back to normal physically the next day. Minimal bleeding, was only sore for the day of the procedure. Mentally of course felt a bit wobbly but all in all relieved in a way, that everything was 'over' and we could move on.

If you check the miscarriage/pregnancy loss threads there's some experiences detailed there. I remember reading many of them to hear some first hand experiences and that's why I decided for the ERPC as it seemed many women who had it felt ok afterwards.

Wishing you all the best!

SpaghettiSquash · 13/04/2022 17:21

So very sorry to hear that. I assume they can't do the ERPC any sooner? Have you asked whether it's safe to delay your ERPC until after your wedding?

I actually felt far better (both physically and mentally) after my ERPC than I did waiting to miscarry for several weeks. If I was in your situation I would choose to have it done before the wedding. You should have very minimal bleeding once it's done so you won't have that to worry about that. It's a quick procedure so you won't be under for long so will have recovered from the GA by the time of your wedding. I hope despite the very sad circumstances you manage to enjoy your wedding day Thanks

@Babdoc We have known for a couple of weeks now that the babies have passed, it’s been a really hard time but the wedding is the light at the end of the tunnel and we feel mentally ready to move on (although it still hurts). I’ve had about 6 scans due to bleeding in the 9 weeks I was pregnant so every week we knew updates on what was going on. It’s been a long couple months xx

@LASandOtto @SpaghettiSquash
Thank you xx
The wedding is our light at the end of the tunnel and we are looking forward to being able to try again after my next normal period

My first one, I was in pain for two weeks and heavy bleeding. I also lost a lot of blood in surgery and had to stay in hospital a couple of nights. Couldn't walk etc.
My second (RPOC) I was fine after two days.

It really depends and nobody can know, unfortunately. I hope all goes well for you.

So sorry for your loss, it's absolutely heartbreaking 💔 💐

Babdoc · 13/04/2022 17:28

Having read your update, OP, it sounds like the wedding will be a much needed dose of happiness, a fresh start and a chance to put the sadness behind you.
My very best wishes for a wonderful day, and I hope you are soon blessed with a successful pregnancy when you feel ready to try again.

nee22 · 13/04/2022 17:28

Devastating for you, I'm so sorry. I really hope you are able to have a special day despite this, you must have so much going on, I can't even imagine.

For me I did bleed for a week+ afterwards but not too heavy. Was quite achy on the day but painkillers were enough. They may give you antibiotics. I felt very fragile emotionally for quite some time, but it's different for everyone. I found it helped to tell 2 close friends who I knew wouldn't say/do anything stupid. Wishing you the best Thanks

LostOrFound · 13/04/2022 17:30

I’m so sorry.

I hope you manage to have a wonderful wedding day.

JenniferBarkley · 13/04/2022 17:30

I would have been fine, physically. We went on holidays a few days later and I was fine. I very much wanted the physical side sorted before we went away so that I wasn't worrying about bleeding in a swimsuit etc.

What terrible timing OP, I'm so sorry, and I hope you have a wonderful wedding day Flowers

bettybadger · 13/04/2022 17:43

So sorry to hear you're going through this.

I seem to remember feeling fine physically the following day and don't think I bled much. But I was still reeling mentally as it was the week after I found out so that may have distracted a little from the physical effects.

I think in your situation I would prefer to go ahead and get the op out of the way to avoid the possibility of any natural passing happening on the wedding day.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful wedding day and wish you all the best for the future x

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 13/04/2022 17:47

So sorry you’re going through this x for me, I didn’t bleed at all, which I wasn’t expecting and I found a bit disconcerting. Physically I felt a bit tired, general anaesthetic seems to really wipe me out, but that was the worst part really. I wasn’t in pain

Mariposista · 13/04/2022 17:48

I am so sorry OP. As others say, you will likely feel ok 3 days after the procedure, but the mental effect will last longer. Try to see your wedding as a positive step forward with your life with your partner (hard as it is). Hope you have a baby later on (if that is what you want).

Nikki037297 · 13/04/2022 18:21

Going by the procedure it’s self yes you should be fine by day 3. But emotionally it’s going to a huge downer I think especially just before your wedding. If you have known for a while that babies have passed then it may well be a huge relief for you once they are out and it’s all finally over. I’m so sorry you are going through this let alone with two babies but right before your wedding it’s absolutely tragic

TheSnowyOwl · 13/04/2022 18:23

I’m so sorry. Physically I think you will be fine for the wedding.

tiantian1005 · 13/04/2022 18:28

This might sound crazy but I flew to a different country about 9 hours after the D&C and felt awesome straight after the op. I actually felt much better than pre-op mentally as well because I could finally move on. I am sure you can enjoy your wedding at least physically 3 days post op.

GinnyBee · 13/04/2022 20:56

So sorry for your loss xx

After my second mc and surgical management I went on a canoe trip for a friend's birthday two days after. To be honest, I enjoyed the distraction and having something else to think about. Of course, it's not the same as a wedding with all the emotional stakes being high.

I did bleed for about 7 weeks afterwards, not heavily though, more like spotting, but just so you're prepared. And your hormones will be out of whack, so even though you've had time to process the news, there may be some hormonal blips still on the way.
