When can I come off progesterone and aspirin?

I got put on progesterone for spotting by the hospital at 9 weeks. The spotting was only 2 incidents and very little. The midwife said something like
"it's too to feel like you're doing something"
I'm only taking half the dose (400mg).

This is the thing though. I have a history of breast cancer (1 mastectomy + radio) and I'd like to get off this ASAP. Can I start weaning off them at 12 weeks? My script is til 16 weeks. I found out today my placenta has formed and the yolk sac is gone.

Also, low dose aspirin to prevent miscarriage. I'm self prescribing that. How long do people stay on this for?

And side effects. I've still got really bad fatigue and morning sickness. Would that be the progesterone.

Any advice welcome. I'll be speaking to my Dr as well if I can ever get her on the phone.

The progesterone would be more likely to cause bloating and constipation. Usually people stop taking it around 12-14 weeks, but if they've prescribed until 16 then I'd take it until then. I assume they of course know your history.

You should let them know about the aspirin if they don't already. I have to take it (150mg) until week 34.

My Dr would know about my cancer history but the midwife who allowed the script didn't. I did speak to my consultant about the effects of fertility drugs if I needed ivf and he said there was a small increased risk that I would have to offset with desire for child. Thankfully I caught naturally and didn't need ivf. I just want to get off the progesterone as soon as I can.

I'm on 150mg aspirin a day and I've been told to take it until I give birth x

I was on progesterone for recurrent miscarriages; took it to 16 weeks as advised. It exacerbated my first trimester symptoms, the nausea, tiredness, bloating. Felt like a new woman within 24 hours of stopping.

I'd recommend speaking to your dr about it. The side effects were well worth it for me as I'm now 31 weeks.

I’ve also been recommended to stay on progesterone until 16 weeks after some spotting/ light bleeding at 6 weeks. I’m 11 weeks and desperate to stop. Not sure why it’s recommended beyond 12 weeks once the placenta is in place.

I’d speak to your midwife about your worries.
Are you under a pregnancy consultant/ obgyn for your pregnancy care?
I’ve not got the same medical history as you but I’m a high risk pregnancy and have had aspirin throughout until 36 weeks. Other than some really annoying heartburn, I’ve not noticed any other side effects. I’ve been out on medication throughout but it’s always checked with the consultant and then my doctor prescribes it if they agree. My midwife is in regular contact with my doctor just to make sure they are in sync with my and my baby’s care.
Anything you’re worried about then please speak to your midwife and clarify things.

Is there another midwife I can phone other than the one at EPU. they just seem so busy and to be dealing with people who are experiencing pain or bleeding. Still trying to get through my doctors. I'm taking half the dose they prescribed atm.

I'm just wondering as well why some ppl are told to take it until 12 weeks and others are told to take it to 16 weeks

If you have had a previous miscarriage then the trial they did said that taking it (400mg twice a day) untill 16 weeks improved the live birth rate. So I think that's why it's advised.

I am also 12 weeks and have it prescribed for another 4 weeks

It really depends. I was on progesterone my whole pregnancy - I was consultant led.
