Worried about baby - trapped in a car with car alarm

This morning my partner popped to the shop and left me in the car but locked the car and took the keys on auto pilot without thinking. The car alarm went off shortly after and went off 3 times whilst I was sat in the car, unable to get out.

I had a panic attack as it was so loud and I was trapped and panicking about the noise for baby. I'm still so worried that it'll have damaged baby's hearing.

Just looking for some reassurance as I'm freaking out. My partner feels awful 😞

Surely you can open the car from inside?

@Herejustforthisone

I went to a very, very loud gig at 37 weeks pregnant. It didn’t even occur to me to worry about the baby’s hearing. The band now soothes my kid. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I went to a Mr Scruff gig at 38w pregnant.

Sorry posted too soon - I had forgotten until I read this. No problems with hearing!

Cars with remote keys won’t do anything if the key isn’t present, including unlock. The alarm goes off as it registers the presence of something inside the car, to alert the person with the key.

Ah - I didn't realise that doubleraspberry

I assumed you could just press the unlock button. Fortunately I've never been trapped in a car!

Baby will be fine, but not a nice experience for you. DH has done this, locked the car, with our DS alone inside and the alarm went off, our son was very upset when daddy came back, a minute or so later. He also did the same with the dog one day! We covered the internal alarm sensors, that did the trick.

If it makes you feel any better, all 3 of mine (out of the womb, so even louder) slept through countless fire alarms that were designed to wake sleeping people. They grow out of it as they reach older age, but it didn't bother them in the slightest and certainly no damage was done.
