Unstable lie/transverse baby 34 weeks

Has anyone else had experience of this? Baby seems to shift constantly between being head down and what I think is transverse - he feels like he's all lumped up at the top of my uterus!

I’m very active and when I’ve walked for a while or been swimming or done yoga he seems to shift into a better position, but overnight he tends to go back to transverse.

I’m trying to sit on my yoga ball rather than the sofa to see if it makes any difference, but I'm surprised that he's still got so much space to turn freely. I’m tall and he's apparently only 40th centile, so perhaps he's got more than the usual amount of room in there? I’ve got a scan on Wednesday and I’m hoping he'll have turned back to being head down, but that's no guarantee he'll stay that way!

Anyone been in a similar position and had a baby who turned head down and stayed there? If so, when did it happen?

I am having the same issued as you as 31 weeks 😫 absolutely terrified they won't stay head down!

First pregnancy baby was head down weeks ago by now and didn't change!

Like you I'm very active and also been sitting on thr ball, but they are still constantly changing positions!

😬 mine went the other way - she was breech, then head down, then discovered as transverse in labour.

Have a look at the website spinningbabies.com - it might give you some tips on positions or techniques you can use to try and coax baby into a better position!

itssquidstella · 10/04/2022 13:26

@Chanel05 what happened, did you end up with an emergency c section?

@DropYourSword I’ve been following some of their techniques but I’m not sure they're convincing him to stay put!

Yes, and they started making noises about admitting me into hospital for the remaining weeks from about 35 weeks, but baby adjusted into the right position on her own at about 36 and then stayed head down.

That's good to know, @backlord - hope you had a smooth delivery in the end!

Yes, all went well for a straightforward birth, though that was my third vaginal birth. I didn't bother trying to turn the baby through my positions or exercises because reading too much about it was making me anxious!

My daughter kept turning, we had to have weekly scans and one week she'd be head down and then the next week she would be breech ans turned every week. She turned to head down at 35 weeks and stayed that way

My dd was transverse at 36. They just told me to go straight in at any sign of labour and inform the triage midwife that baby was transverse. I think they said baby won’t necessarily stay head down until they are engaged which sometimes doesn’t happen until very late on. They said for that reason there is little point doing weekly scans as baby could have moved again by the time you’ve left the hospital

@itssquidstella dilated to 10cm (eventually), pushed for two hours, half hour of ventouse whilst exhausted and falling asleep, then a cat 1 emergency section.

itssquidstella · 11/04/2022 08:09

@backlord glad everything went well in the end!

@CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood thanks for sharing (and love the username!). I’m hoping my boy is the same and will settle (head) down eventually.

@SingingWaffleDoggy it's good to hear that they weren't too concerned. I’m seeing the midwife tomorrow and then have a scan on Wednesday so will bring it up then and see what they say.

@Chanel05 I’m sorry, that sounds like a difficult experience. I hope you're both okay now x
