Hey ladies
I have recently been diagnosed with gestational diabetes
My sugar cravings in this pregnancy have been really strong.
Any tips?
Did you have any cheat days?
And how do people cut out white carbs??
Would love to hear your experience

Depending on your tolerances you may not have to cut out white carbs altogether. I could tolerate pasta as long as not too big a portion and combined with healthy fats (extra virgin olive oil in the case of pasta). I just tried to eat more protein to fill myself up - so nuts instead of crisps, yoghurt with a bit of low sugar granola for breakfast instead of cereal.

Also going for a brisk walk after eating can really help stop the blood sugar spike.

No cheat days I’m afraid. The spikes in blood sugar cross the placenta - so not good for you or your baby and can damage the placenta. It’s hard but you’ve just got to remember it’s temporary.

Cheat days were an absolute no for me, I wasn't prepared to take any risks once I knew I had GD and became aware of the seriousness of what can happen in uncontrolled GD (I'm not saying this to scare you by the way)

Wholewheat pasta and bread was tolerable for me but everyone's tolerances are different. You still need some carbs in your diet but wholewheat paired with protein and fat are going to be more tolerable than white.

Gestational Diabetes UK website and Facebook page was invaluable. It explained food pairing really well.

I managed to keep my diet controlled but a lot of people end up on medication and there's no shame in that either.

I'd recommend checking out Gestational Diabetes UK and read up on there.

Good luck!
