I think it depends on the Trust? I had mine done due to a very generic risk factor - ethnicity. I wouldn't worry unless they've said they're concerned and are watching out for some reason in particular. Also, I think it should say in your notes, why they've requested it?

I was meant to go for one with this pregnancy but declined it. The midwife only referred me because of my weight at my booking appointment which was borderline but as my other two babies weren't big at birth despite being overdue and diabetes doesn't run in my family, I declined it. Midwife was absolutely fine with it and agreed it wasn't a necessity for me.

I'd speak to your midwife about it, she'll be able to answer any questions and like deliwoman1 said, they normally put a wee note in your records to say why.

No records on my notes just checked i do go to see midwife in few weeks before my glucose test so will ask then however i do think it was because of my bmi at booking appointment and i had a 9lb 10oz baby last time but he was overdue by 2 weeks so that could also be another reason why however i have no family history of diabetes so can only think of these 2 reasons for me being booked in for it x

You can have it without any risk factors too, so I personally would do it when offered. I had it done because of family history but otherwise I'm very low risk. It came back negative. Untreated GD increses your risk of pre-term delivery and stillbirth, and your baby is at an increased risk of obesity and developing diabetes later in life. For an easy test I think it's worth it.

Yeah, it'll likely be BMI. Nothing to worry about, but like @GinnyBee says, it's a super easy test (provided you're okay with having bloods done) and it's worth having. I actually quite enjoyed the drink they give you after the first blood draw because I was thirsty. I found it refreshing and not at all disgusting! I also enjoyed the wait in the reception. Read a book and listened to a podcast. Bloody peace and quiet and no work for two hours! Bliss!

They refer everyone over 40 where I am regardless of lack of any other risk factors.
