Kicks!

Hey 🙂

I've spoken to my maternity assessment unit a few times about this/ been seen / heartbeat checked weekly

I'm just curious to see if there's any ladies in the same position here please? I'm 25 weeks and I've felt soft kicks since about 20 weeks. My placenta is at the back, so issue there.

Baby only ever kicks softly 1 hour early morning and 1 hour late at night. Everything I read/ chatting to other mums, seems like I should get stronger kicks now and also much more frequency. I've even stayed awake one night (was having a bout of insomnia anyways! to see if I miss any) - and also tried to track on a day off work, in case it's busy-ness.

So I'm certain he only kicks for 2 hours a day 💁🏼‍♀️ MAU said they can't do anything other than check a heartbeat until 26 weeks. Not sure what they do after that...

Appreciate your thoughts! Xxx

Oops that should say - placenta at the back so no issue there!

Hi @Rachae
I am 2 weeks behind you....I remember you posting around November time (testing a lot, advising against those troublesome CN digitals with weeks?!) and hoped everything was going okay.

I have an anterior placenta, didn't feel anything until about 19 weeks and even then they were occasional tiny flutters. Now I feel a lot more movement at 23 weeks, although I also get worried when the "pattern" changes, or when I don't feel a thing for 4 hours or so despite lying down. He's been wriggling or kicking me since 3am today though so can't complain!

Sorry I'm not replying with the same experience you're having Blush but what I've gathered from countless Mumsnet threads is babies are all different in their movements. If you're having regular check anyway and the midwives are happy, then I'd try my best to relax and hope that your baby will be just as chilled when he's born as he is now.

(In comparison to mine, who seems to be a nocturnal bat Grin )

I think what matters is your baby’s pattern and your baby may still be getting into a pattern and it’s if that’s pattern changes then things need checked. Baby will be moving all of the time even just his arms a little or his legs. I’m 14/15 weeks and only feel my baby is she has a good dance in there. I had a scan and she moved so much on the scan. I do know there is a point near the end where you will feel it all every little movement but there is still room in there for your baby to have small squirms and you not feel them. You could ask for a scan and see if baby is moving on the scan and your not feeling them

They say baby develops pattern between 24-28 weeks so don’t worry until then which I know is hard I ended up in with reduced movements at 27+3 but it was worth the 5 hours in triage on monitor for my piece of mind !! Am 31 weeks today and my little boy doesn’t seem to have a set pattern throughout the day he does what he wants but he does have a wriggle in the morning when I wake and when am going to sleep he’s breech so am feeling everything low down and not these belly moving kicks everyone talks about at this stage. Positioning and what way they face has a lot to do with it ans they’ve still got loads of room 25 weeks but if the anxiety gets to much just go to triage xxx

Hi OP, you seem to be very anxious in regards to this pregnancy, I’ve seen your other posts. Have you spoken to your midwife about your worries/ are they aware of the anxiety you’ve had from an early stage?

Everyone is different so don’t compare to other mums that have lots of kicks. You are doing the right thing contacting MAU, and if it gives you peace of mind then go in for monitoring.

My DD would move the most just before bed, and was genuinely quiet through the day, maybe a few kicks here and there, she would also like a 3am wriggle.

If you haven’t then please do seek help from your midwife regarding the anxiety Flowers

Sounds about right, I went in for reduced movements at 25 weeks as I thought I should be feeling more but realistically they are only just establishing a pattern at that point and they reassured me everything was fine.

He still mainly moves continuously, like you, for an hour morning and night... though I wish they were as soft still! At 39 weeks it feels like he's about to burst out at any moment (alien style) and it's bloody uncomfortable! He does move softly throughout the day now though.

I was paranoid as everybody in my online baby group was banging on about the baby having hiccups from like 20 weeks and I felt nothing like that and no idea what it was meant to feel like... until it happened to me at 36 weeks finally.

We're all different it's just recognising what's normal for you and trying not to compare too much x

InvisibleDragon · 08/04/2022 10:27

I think this sounds quite normal.

My placenta is at the front, so I hardly felt any kicks at all before 20 weeks - the first definite one was the day of the 20 week scan.

As the pregnancy has gone on, I feel more kicks and movements more often. I think around 22 - 24 weeks I would probably feel something most evenings and when I woke up in the morning - like what you feel now with your baby.

I started logging movements around 26 weeks and by then I was also feeling gentle movements about 2 or 3 other times during the day.

By 28 weeks, I'd feel 1 or 2 movements every hour or so, but still with longer breaks. Now I'm 30 weeks and he's just started to have longer periods of noticeable movements (about an hour at a time) as well as the intermittent kicking.

Whenever he's checked at midwife appointments, they always comment on how active he is because the Doppler picks up movements that I don't feel.

I think especially around 20 weeks they can be very active but depending on their position you don't feel it beca they are kicking into empty space - or your intestines, which don't have the same sensitivity!

Horsesforcourses23 · 08/04/2022 11:18

Not sure if this helps or not but apparently my placenta is at the front and I am 25 weeks and I have still not felt baby kick at all. The midwife told me not to worry when I do start to feel it I will know and probably only get a pattern after a few weeks.

I’m going to sound mental.
I’m absolutely convinced I can feel a baby moving the last few days. Sides more so.
I have gained a lot of weight lately also.
Been off contraceptive since august.
Taken home tests over months and result is negative.
I bought a Doppler this morning.
I am hearing my heartbeat rate 60-70… is it normal to hear this in lots of positions on abdomen if you ARENT pregnant?
Im started to question if I have an anterior placenta and just can’t hear babies?
Im probably going bloody mad.
Please help- im probably gonna go drs after weekend because im convinced. (Im usually sensible and not crazy I swear)- have two teenagers… but my belly feels… different- tense at times… and movements.

If you were far along enough to feel movements you would have had a positive test months ago. The heart beat you heard is your own, and you would hear the same thing on a man. A baby's would be over 110.

Please see a doctor about tense abdomen and weight gain as these could indicate a serious problem. You may wish to discuss your mental health as well if you are having difficulty accepting the results of negative tests.

Hey just wanted to update this thread in case others find it useful in the future! I'm now 29 weeks and STILL very little movement/ no pattern! Had countless scans and heart trace and all is well. Sometimes you can just be the anomaly 🙂 (drives me crazy tho!)
