Transverse at 31 weeks

I had a midwife appointment today and baby is transverse. She was surprised he had not moved by now as would have expected him to have. She said he only has about 3/4 weeks to move.

Is he likely to move now? Just a bit concerned now!

Oh it's so worrying, isn't it?

One of mine was still transverse at 34 weeks and turned at 35ish weeks, born at 41+2. Everything was ok.
Fingers crossed, OP.

My DD was transverse at that stage too and she turned. I was really worried about it and spent a lot of time googling ways to get her to move. No idea if they worked or it was a coincidence but by my next check she was head down.

My first moved at 36 weeks spot on and 2nd 36+2 both born day before due date.
I knew both times that they had turned because I was really sick, completely emptied my stomach as they pushed themselves round. It wasn't comfortable and the whole shape of my stomach changed.

My baby was transverse until 35 weeks. Still plenty od time to move!

I had an unstable lie so my baby was still turning and changing positions at 38 weeks, usually from breech to transverse and back again, never head down. I ended up being admitted to hospital at 38 weeks due to the risk of cord prolapse. I had a semi elective csection at 39+4 as I declined ecv induction. Just wanted to give a different experience, my case was extremely rare though. Most midwives where I was admitted had never seen an unstable lie before 🙈

My baby was transverse up to 36 weeks. I wasn’t too worried as the midwives said they see it all the time. Is it your first baby? I’m pregnant with my first and they said they expected the baby to go head down quite early as they usually see it around 28 weeks but can happen later.
Must say, was much more comfortable when baby was transverse! 😂
I bought a birthing ball to help ligament pain and j think that’s what helped shift the baby

Mine was transverse up to 37+4 and was admitted into hospital until they were head down, which they are now. Hoping they stay this way now. You still have plenty of time for them to move but perhaps you can try some exercises/bouncing on the ball to encourage them? Hope it all works well and don't stress

My DD was transverse from 28 weeks until 36 weeks where she turned herself breech! I had a scan at 36 weeks to confirm breech presentation, like a previous poster I declined the ECV and had an elective c-section booked in at 39 weeks exactly. Little madam still wasn't finished being difficult so broke my waters at 38+5 so I ended up with a c-section 2 days earlier than expected!

My dd, second child, was transverse till 36 weeks. I used the spinning babies website to encourage her but no idea if it made any difference!

MrsSamRowley · 07/04/2022 07:36

The midwife who did my scan at 36 weeks did say that in the vast majority of cases baby will have turned by then - only 2 in 100 babies will still be breech/transverse at 36 weeks so more than likely they'll still turn for you!

Sprogonthetyne · 07/04/2022 07:42

DD was transverse, and didn't turn, but it was still fine. I had a section, which wasn't what I had wanted, but wasn't horrible either. We knew in advance when she would be born, so just came in to hospital on the morning, and had the op around midday. It feels wired but not painful, and you don't see anything gory. Everyone was calm and friendly and you have lovely baby cuddles before you know it.

Just another perspective to let you know even if baby doesn't move, it won't be the end of the world.

linerforlife · 07/04/2022 08:38

Gosh heaps of time for baby to move. Keep active and look at the spinning babies website for some ideas of positions you could hold for a while to encourage them to get a wiggle on! Enjoy your newborn when they arrive OP!

My dd was breech at that point but turned a few weeks later. She was head down until at least 38 weeks. Discovered in labour that she was at that point transverse! Had an emergency section (eventually - a good 20 hours after discovering she was transverse).

Moral of the story - babies are unpredictable and can change position at any moment!
