How early can I find out the sex?

Just that. What's the very earliest? I waited until the 20 wk scan before, but this time I'm desperate to know. Money is not a particular object.

I had a private scan for reassurance at around 16 weeks and they were able to tell straight away (it was a bonus for us rather than the reason we booked it). They wont guarantee that they’ll be able to tell you though, so you may come away disappointed depending on baby’s position etc.

If you have the Harmony test you can find out at 10 weeks.

HelloViroids · 06/04/2022 20:02

My harmony result came through about 9+5 - its based on blood not a scan.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 06/04/2022 20:04

I had the blood test and definitely found out before 10 weeks. As pp days, it does require a blood test.

I found out at 10 weeks (harmony)

SunnySideUp2020 · 06/04/2022 20:14

I found at 12w with the nipt

Sneak peek do a blood test from 6 weeks around £70

Ultrasound direct do a NIPT test from 10 weeks £400

Private gender scans generally start from 15 weeks £50

FTEngineerM · 06/04/2022 20:52

The moment of conception.. its going to be a boy.

I’ll be right half the time Wink

RandomQuest · 06/04/2022 21:19

NIPT testing, of which Harmony is a brand (there are other brands such as Iona or Panorama), can accurately tell you the sex from 10 weeks. It’s a more accurate screening tool than the combined test too so offers piece of mind.

6 weeks....?!? Wow. I'm 6 weeks on Friday 😊

Thanks for the expert advice everyone. I'm really, REALLY, hoping it will be a girl.

I went to a sneak peek clinic (had a blood test) at 10 weeks. It was £129. They now offer it from 7 weeks. You can do it at home for £79 but it is no where near as accurate.

Ishacoco · 08/04/2022 15:41

Oh that's interesting, Chanel, I didn't know about the clinics. I will definitely go to one if it's more certain. Why is that, do you know?

They do the clinics as the home versions in the U.K. are finger pricks and a lot of people are finding they have contaminated their samples by accident with male dna which is very easy to do if you haven’t scrubbed your hands enough. So any male dna found in your blood will automatically give you a baby boy result. They changed last week from 7 weeks to 6 weeks. I ordered the home test at 5 weeks and took it at 6 weeks

Chanel05 · 08/04/2022 16:28

@Ishacoco the blood test at a clinic is taken by a phlebotomist. At home, it's by finger prick. Problem is, though you need to clean the area thoroughly before you start, if any male DNA from your partner or even a male pet of yours somehow is in the area it will contaminate the sample and show it as XY.

Ishacoco · 09/04/2022 22:33

Ah, ok, that does make sense. Thanks for the info!
