Reassurance/viability scan?

Just wondering how many of you have opted to pay to have a viability/reassurance scan?

I'm really tempted but at £80, it's quite a lot of money when I'd be having a scan 4 weeks later...

Just seems a long old time to wait for a 12 week scan

Is there any specific reason you're having it? I'm having a 6 week scan at my EPU NHS because of my history and high rick pregnancy. You could ask your epu if they would give you a viability scan if you've had any previous issues?

If its just for peace of mind then I would pay private if helps you get through the weeks x

I paid for one at 8 weeks, I had a chemical pregnancy in December and wanted the reassurance that there was something there. Having one at 8 weeks broke up the first trimester a bit as I found out at 3+1 so it would have been over 9 weeks of feeling in limbo

@Amphibian94

This is my first pregnancy so I just feel a bit out of my depth and anxious really. No real issues that I know of but would be more to help get me through the weeks like you say x

If it helps settle your mind then it is worth it. Its hard not to worry (trust me I've already had several melt downs this week!). But if there's no pressing issue see how long you can go without? X

The first 12 weeks anything can happen , I know it's not nice to hear however even if you had the scan on Monday something could happen Tuesday . It all depends on yourself I am a very anxious worrier however more scans wouldn't have helped me at all I think I would just want another and another I waited until 13 weeks when my scan was and all was fine , if there's no bleeding , cramping etc and you have had a.positive then there isn't anything else anyone can do so early on if something was wrong .

If you feel it will help you then definitely get it done ! . I am 21 weeks now and all ok. I had covid at 10 weeks , covid again at 16 weeks however to me what's meant to be will be and if it's not there was a reason for it.

Will it make you want more and more scans.the whole way through, after the 20 week scan will you be confident until you give birth .

If you can afford it , and it will put your mind at ease then you should. If you feel it will make you more anxious after seeing something there then I wouldn't

All the best . Hope that didn't sound harsh I didn't mean it too ? X

@hollyanna87 hey , I had one at 6 weeks and it defenetly made me feel so much better knowing that I actually had a baby growing there and in the right place , sometimes it can be molar pregnant , ectopic ect so I wanted to know I’m safe Smile in my opinion , I am 6 +4 today and I will be booking private scan every 1 week until 12 weeks ( my next scan is at 7 weeks ) last one at 6 weeks , and then I won’t anymore once I get to 12 weeks .Smilebut for me money is not a problem but my anxiety is !

ShareLove · 05/04/2022 16:45

@hollyanna87 i know what people are saying that something can go wrong in between the scans but I would rather know early than later xx

hollyanna87 · 05/04/2022 16:51

@justanotherlaura

Well done you for that long wait!

Exactly that, I think it will break it up, also make it for real, particularly for my partner who is just getting to hear me tell him I can't eat/drink certain things because he can't feel any of the stuff going on! X

@lms2017

Doesn't sound harsh at all, that's why I thought I'd ask people, because that thought has occured to me that it doesn't matter how many scans you have, things can always still happen! X

@ShareLove

Ah bless you, I'd be doing the same thing if I was feeling so anxious.

It is just that not really knowing what's going on in there... I'm very good at reading into things too much haha! X

I've had a few 😊 it really depends how you'll feel. If it makes you feel better I would recommend doing it.

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/04/2022 17:06

I had a viability scan at 7 weeks for £68 and it was absolutely the right thing for us.

Aranciata · 05/04/2022 19:43

I had 3 scans before the 12 week scan, it was an IVF pregnancy so it was usual to have a scan around 6 or 7 weeks, and then had 2 more.
Then had a couple more between the 12 week and 20 week scan. After that I had fairly frequent NHS scans but if not I would have arranged more private ones.

Do what you need to do to get through. Hope all is well.

I suffer with anxiety and had a scan at 7w, made me feel loads better to see the little heart beat fluttering away xx

@hollyanna87 did you have the scan? I’m only 6+1 I’m thinking of getting one at 8 and wondered about your experience?

I had a scan at 8+3 and found it gave me some reassurance and kept me going until the 12 week scan x
