Hi there, just wondering as I am a bit older at 39, do they let you go full term or tend to induce early. 33 weeks currently, am huge! Next midwife appt not for a few weeks so will prob be asking more questions then. Thanks in advance

One of the girls in our NCT group had her first baby last year, aged 39. She went to term and there was no suggestion that an induction would be required. Obviously she had a low risk pregnancy otherwise.

Have a read of the NICE guidelines for though - I don't know if induction is recommended based on age. I'd be surprised if there was to be honest but who knows?!

They will probably try to suggest it. You don’t have to agree.

I have recently had my 2nd baby at 39. I wasn't a high risk pregnancy so there was never any talk of an early induction. I went to 41+3 in the end. Midwives started getting twitchy in the 41st week as they knew I wanted a home birth and if I made it to 42 weeks that wouldn't be an option, even with additional scans etc. So I had two attempted sweeps each time cervix was 'unfavourable' I think was the term used and as a result had an induction booked just before 42 weeks. Didn't need it in the end as baby got its act together and entered the world before hand.

I don’t think so? In my trust at least, you’ve got to be over forty at delivery

Thanks for your responces, I literally have asked no questions about the birth yet and just having little panic xxx

I am 40 and they said at my booking in appointment that I'd be induced between 39 and 40 weeks due to age, so I'd have thought they would have mentioned it to you, they told me it's 40 and over they induce

mummyh2016 · 04/04/2022 21:53

It's over 40 at my trust.

I'm just 40 as well for the record and they made similar noises to me about induction at 39 weeks but for anyone else this ancient ;) you can also decline that! I can't see any reason why this would need to suddenly become a requirement vs if I was literally a month younger.
