Likely ectopic. How to prepare?

I posted my dye-stealing positive the other day, and counting back from my last period, I'd have been almost six weeks pregnant, despite no symptoms.

I went to the early pregnancy unit yesterday as I was worried about the fact I'd been 'spotting' for 5 days, and cramping quite a lot.

My womb was empty, but had a thickened lining. They took blood that morning to monitor hormone levels. They called me later that evening asking if I could come in, as they are concerned that my hormone levels are 2000, meaning a sac or something should have been visible.

This indicates there is a sac somewhere. There is fluid around my ovary and they're not sure if it's blood. I'm going back tomorrow to have my samples compared.

In the meantime has anyone been in a similar position? What can I expect?

Hello, I have just been through this, unfortunately my hormone levels were 5400 at 6 was 7 days but nothing was being seen on the scan. I was having an ectopic in my left tube. I've just undergone surgery and they have removed my left tube. Hope that yours has a different outcome. All the best x

I was in a very similar position. I'd spotted for a few days before being 6 weeks and was preparing for a miscarriage that never came. When I was 6 weeks, I had a scan and they couldn't see anything. Took my blood two days apart and that showed my hcg rising but at a really slow rate. Went in for my blood being taken a third time and they scanned me again and found it near my right ovary. I had to wait for the registrar to come see me where she explained what it was and what treatment was available and which was best suited to me, which was the methotrexate injection. They weighed and measured me so they could prescribe it. I had to wait over the weekend for the consultant to give the go ahead and for them to dispense the injection and then they took my blood again, and gave me two jabs in my bum cheeks. Then I had to have blood tests 4 days apart to check my levels were going down and from there weekly blood tests until my hcg was below 5. I had open access to EPU and the surgical assessment unit during that time incase I needed to go in for an emergency. I'm so sorry you're going through this. It is horrible and you have to be kind to yourself and really give yourself time to heal. I had about 4 weeks off work and felt so guilty but an amazing nurse told me I was doing the right thing as I'm being treated for something that is a medical emergency as well as the loss of a pregnancy I really wanted. The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust has a great website full of information. Xxxxx

I am really sorry you have both gone through this Sad

We weren't actively trying to get pregnant but it was very much on the cards, we don't have any yet. Hoping I can keep both ovaries but it doesn't feel likely I will.

Thank you for your help x

I had a ruptured ectopic 4 years ago so had emergency surgery and right tube removed.

Believe it or not I had nothing to indicate anything was wrong! I had all the pregnancy symptoms (sickness, bloating)

I didn't have any pain, no bleeding, nothing!

I just had this feeling something wasn't right.

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with my second child.

Good luck

I had a ruptured ectopic in 2009 and had a tube removed surgically. I then had a baby in august 2010. I found the ectopic pregnancy trust website incredibly helpful. Be prepared for a subsequent pregnancy to be a bit nerve wracking and to have multiple blood tests and scans!

I had something similar in 2020 - nothing found on scan, rising levels, mild bleeding. They eventually found a very small ectopic in my right Fallopian tube. I chose to have methotrexate and the ectopic was successfully resolved. Like another poster, I took three weeks off work and was part time for a month after that - it was physically and emotionally exhausting.

Like many others, I fell pregnant again and the baby is due very soon so there does not necessarily need to be any concern over your future fertility, but concentrate on looking after yourself now. There’s a really good thread on the conception board for TTC after ectopics but it is much more than TTC and offered me a lot of support.

Thank you all for sharing your stories and resources. I had a fallopian tube removed last night, the ectopic pregnancy along with it.

Terrified of this ever happening again but probably do still want a baby one day.
