Strong Period Pain- Could this be early Labour- feel like crying

Hi everyone- please humour me- but I am experiencing a lot of BH to the point where I have to breath through them with period type pain, pain is strong enough to want to take pain relief..

Was 1/5 engaged last Wed at the midwife and the baby seems to be doing hand standas during bh.

I have had a bath but it hasn't worked, and lying on my side makes the pain more intense.. no show or extra discharge (sorry tmi) but have been having 'looser' bowel movements, infact 3 today.. had hot flashes when out today too..

People say that you just know when you are in labout but I am worried because the pain is like period pain but then stretches across my whole bump

I don't want to unnecessarily bother the mw and was hoping that a whole crowd of you would tell me that you have experienced these symptoms?

I am 37+4 by the way

Thanks in advance

I think bothering the mw is a good idea if you are having to stop and breathe through the contractions. Probrably still pre-labour, but no harm to get checked.

rainbowdays · 07/01/2008 16:40

How close together are the contractions?

weeonion · 07/01/2008 16:40

maybe give the MW a call - for reassurance. is there anyone there with you at the moment?

rainbowdays · 07/01/2008 16:41

Have you tried taking paracetamol for the pain, might help take the edge off the discomfort.

LynetteScavo · 07/01/2008 16:49

Def' contanct midwife - no harm in getting checked out. Does sound to me like early labour.

daisynova · 07/01/2008 16:51

I would contact the MW too.

booge · 07/01/2008 16:54

Sounds like my labour felt, get check out and good luck

orangina · 07/01/2008 17:03

sounds like early labour to me. Take some paracetamol and call the MW...

weeonion · 07/01/2008 19:42

bluebell - how you doing now??

bluebell82 · 08/01/2008 08:37

Hi everyone- called the mw and she said it sounded likely to be early labour, gave me the choice of going into the labour ward but said I wanted to wait until it got worse- told me to have a hot bath and take some paracetamol and get some sleep.. slept soundly all night except getting up twice with diarrahea (sorry tmi) cramps are still there but not as noticeable as yesterday.. think it could be a stomach bug now.. baby is still moving in time with the pains which is a good sign so feeling more positive! Thanks for your help!

I would get into the hospital and not be all stoic about it. You don't want to take any chances in the name of not causing any 'trouble'. Better to be in there and being monitored to make sure that the baby doesn't become distressed. You've come so far, but the next bit is crucial. Is this your first? BTW I had my first at 35 weeks and while it was not straightforward we both came through fine.

I think I am going to take your Advice AussieSim as have spent the rest of the morning asleep but struggling to get the LO to move and she is usually really receptive so ringin gthe labour ward now- just tried to find a thread about baby movements but to be honest I'm best getting montiored or I will worry

bluebell82 · 11/01/2008 20:18

Quick update- baby still in me- had contracted the diarrohea bug so explains the bowel evacuation and cramps! Did get monitored and all fine so just waiting now.. starting to feel normal again now- typical!
