Normal to feel so tired this early??

I'm only 4 + 5 (I feel a bit of a fraud posting in pregnancy since I'm so early!) but I am feeling SO tired. I napped for 2 hrs yesterday afternoon and still slept for 10 hrs last night.

I've woken up today feeling exhausted and I just don't have any energy. I want to sleep.

Is this pg tiredness or am I being lazy?!?

Yep. My first symptom for all my pregnancies was tiredness. Getting out of bed in the morning got so difficult so fast, before I even took a test.

MadameDragon · 30/03/2022 12:05

First trimester tiredness is insane, it’s like jetlag. It’s very different from towards the end when you’re physically tired from lugging yourself around.
So it could easily be pregnancy related.

Tiredness can be overwhelming and in my case literally plagued me throughout my pregnancy. However, mine was a multiple pregnancy so not perhaps unusual.

ronswansonstache · 30/03/2022 12:14

First trimester tiredness is real! Your body is doing loads of work right now and it's possible the most tired you will be throughout your pregnancy. Later on you get more uncomfortable but never this tired.

After about 11 - 12 weeks the placenta takes over and you will probably feel better. I used to come home from work and go straight to bed!

I found out about both of my pregnancies at about 7 weeks. For a couple of weeks before both I'd been constantly exhausted all the time, and it made sense after I found out! PP is right, you'll never be as tired (in pregnancy) as you are now. The last few weeks are a different sort of tiredness.

It went on until the second trimester for me, but you might find it eases quicker, or takes a bit longer.

Congrats!

Yep that's pregnancy tiredness. Your body does huge amounts of work. I read somewhere equivalent to climbing a mountain. Smile

Blue2020 · 30/03/2022 12:38

@IshaCoco yes I feel like that, since a few days before I found out at 4weeks. I’m now 8+2 and it’s still like that. I go to bed by 8pm, wake up at 6am. I feel fine until midday/1pm and then tiredness sets in until I go to bed at 8pm. I’m even yawning now. Although I also go to the toilet every 2hrs in the night, so it’s not undisturbed sleep.

Comedycook · 30/03/2022 12:41

First few weeks are when you're the most tired. You're body is working really hard right now.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/03/2022 12:43

Yes I felt shattered very early on

Miller2021 · 30/03/2022 12:44

I was knackered from about week 4 to week 9-10, luckily I was working from home so had a nap every afternoon. I'm now 23 weeks and the rest of the pregnancy so far has been fine, a bit tired on and off but nothing like those early weeks.

StormyWindow · 30/03/2022 12:45

Yep, never felt tiredness like it, even when sleep deprived after DD was born! When you actually think about what your body is doing right now, literally creating new life, it's not surprising but it does come as a shock when it happens to you Smile

Jupiter92 · 30/03/2022 12:47

Absolutely! It was my first symptom too. I fell asleep sitting up at work because I just couldn't stay awake and that was before I had taken a pregnancy test so I had no idea I was pregnant!

The NHS website says to rest when you can :)

pinklillie · 30/03/2022 12:48

Most definitely. I couldn't work out what was wrong with me I was physically and mentally exhausted at 5 weeks. I was ready to make appointments with the Dr to work out what was going on and then I missed my period. It was insane how tired I felt. Your body is doing such a lot of incredible work right now. If you need to sleep then sleep x

babyjellyfish · 30/03/2022 14:51

Very normal. I was constantly exhausted in the first trimester. The end was a piece of cake in comparison (other than struggling to roll over in bed).
