yoga when pregnant

Hi, I'm probably complicating this isuue but I could do with a wee bit of advice. Is it OK to most yoga poses while pregnant. I don't really want to tell my yoga teacher I'm pg. I'm 7 wks and have a history of recurrent m/c and all previous 3 pgs have m/c around 8/9 weeks. I suppose I'm scared I'm near that time again and don't want to tell my teacher, who I don't know very well, only to have to tell him if anything goes wrong again. However it would be nice to continue with my yoga classes, I do like them. D'ya think I should just wait to see if I make though the next wee while before I go back to the class. I'm just a bit nervous of it all at the moment.

Can you try and find classes yoga for pregnancy, they have a few around where we are.

OK if you don't want to tell just yet, stop yoga now.
Any serious teacher will not allow you ANY yoga practice before 4th month unless you have a very established regular practice and know exactly what you are doing.
Just take it easy and nurture your body right now. walk and breathe fresh air instead.
Take care.

I did antenatal yoga throughout my pregnancy from 14 weeks. Teacher would not take women before then.

I would lay off for a bit, try and find a specific pg class. I found mine great, meant I felt fit, used a lot of it in labour, and social side was good too.

Hi there - I have done yoga almost throughout pg - told my teacher (in confidence) straight away at 6 weeks - however - due to work I did not go to any classes from week 9-12 started back again at 13 weeks and with hindsight I should have done that anyway - 8-12 weeks pretty crucial and is just best not to tempt fate or take any risks. I would just steer clear of classes till after scan and do some light stretching, seated poses etc at home and lots of relaxation Avoid any twists and back bends for sure.

Also in general some poses just felt uncomfortable also - so listen to your body. I kept going to reg yoga until 32 weeks but started pg yoga at 26 weeks as well. Have only been to pg yoga classes now since 32 weeks.

Good luck hope all goes well

PLEASE stop your yoga for a few weeks, until all is settled and your baby is better developed. It's just not worth taking the risk. I was determined not to 'ease up' when pg and I overdid it, even though it was a yoga course for pg women. I was having twins and didn't want to show weakness compared to the other women. Unfortunately I overdid it on a Friday and went into labour on the Sunday, 10 weeks early. Did it contribute? I think it did, but no proof. (The dch are fine!)

Hi ladies
Thank very much for all your advise. I'm going to leave the yoga for the time being and just do some light stretching and breathing at home just to help me relax. Get a bit nervous making small decisions about lifestyle etc, at the moment, it's nice to have people to ask. Cheers!

Hi Karney, come and join us on the Aug antenatal club thread!
I stopped going to yoga once I got my BFP and will start again at 12wks. Luckily my class is probably the cheapest in the land (more of a yoga co-op ) so I can afford to miss loads.
