Experience of planned C-section

Hello there

Any advise would be gratefully received.

I am currently 38+1 weeks pregnant and I had a growth scan on Saturday as i have been measuring big for dates. They have told me the baby alread weighs 8 and a half pounds!!! they are booking me in today to see a consultant to discuss my different options regarding delivery as I am 5ft and mediumed framed. I also have been monitored for pre-eclampsia and apparently I am teasing them as to whether I am going to develop it or not. And I am suffering with painful SPD but not severely. I don't think they are going to let me go past term.

What I really want to know are people's experience of planned C-section should they give me this option.

I had planned to have a vaginal birth which would hopefully come on naturally. What I really do not want is to be induced and go all through labour only to have complications because of the size of the baby and end up having an emergency C-section at the end of it all anyhow. So I am wondering whether a planned C-section is my best option.

I have to stress this is not something I would even have considered before and really isn't something I relish doing but I really don't want to be induced and end up with the same outcome.

I know nobody (not even a consultant) can tell me how my birth is going to be but any advise would be gratefully received.

Don't get sterilised at the same time as this is very unreliable....tubes can tie back together as they are too engorged after pg. I found this was my best section and quickest to heal, due to the least weight gain. i did have to have a senior registrar, as dc3 took 20 minutes to cut through as bladder and things were stuck to scar. This one took 90 seconds, mw wasn't even scrubbed in as seniour registrar was so quick. I also stayed an extra night in hospital to ensure I got enough rest and this time took six weeks to drive again. In addition my Mother came to live with me for 2 months, she lives abroad. After three weeks, bar lifting, I was back to normal.
What did you need to know?

thats what i was thinking not to get sterilised,
just the thought of not having another baby makes me sick especially as i wanted a much bigger family. how much did your babies weigh? my first was 9.04lbs second 9.14lbs both delivered by section and this ones going to be huge cant move but lots of family to help so i ok in that sense but cant drive already still got six weeks to go. the consultants say it better to get sterilised due to size of babies but i not so sure they know whats better cause not really had major problems after sections.

These positive experiences are very reassuring....I'm having an elective in 2 weeks (will be 39 weeks) after 26 hours of labour and em CS 20 months ago.

However, I am being sterilised at the same time (my request) and my hospital told me they routinely cut a section away from each tube rather than tie / clip the tubes which obviously is much more reliable.

is sterilisation reversable does anyone know?

LittleMissNorty · 20/01/2009 13:15

no - that's the point.

have a look here re big babies. Had elective c-section myself 1st time round, operation no problem, off the planet on morphine for day one, hard recovery. Preferred VBAC myself.
