Stopping Cyclogest - Advice please

I'm currently taking Cyclogest pessaries twice a day due to recurring miscarriages.
I'm now 14 weeks and 4 days and my consultant said I can stop them when I get to 16 weeks. I can either go cold turkey or phase them out. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice please.

I'm also feeling a bit anxious about stopping them in general, even though I won't need them as of next Thursday...

I felt the same, I was convinced the baby would stop growing and I would instantly miscarry - I found the nurses no help as it was all so 'run of the mill' for them and they were quite dismissive. (IVF clinic) I found the answer/ comfort I needed on mumsnet of other women who had gone through the same and it was all fine.

I know it's hard to get your head around, I'm still convinced the cyclogest is the only thing that kept me pregnant but by this point it genuinely has done its job.

I'm now 37 weeks pregnant x

I had them until 12 weeks due to previous miscarriages. I was slightly nervous, but I'm now 33 weeks. Trust your placenta, it'll do its job from now!

Thank you @yorkshireteaspoonie @GinnyBee
It's all new to me because I have a DD who's 5 and that pregnancy was a complete breeze. No anxiety about anything at all, so my 3 subsequent losses have been a real shock. There's no reason as to why they happened, but I am now 41 so maybe it's my age?

When you both came off the pessaries did you both just completely stop or did you phase it out? I'm thinking of dropping down to only at night but every other day for a few days once I hit 16 weeks...

I weaned off from 4 a day over 2 weeks.

I had progesterone injections with my first. I phased them out slowly. I was doing daily injections. Then every other day for 2 weeks. Then twice a week for two weeks. Then I stopped. It was very stressful. With my second I had cycolgest but stated on it till 36 weeks due to a problem with the uterus identified delivering the first.

I just stopped. I hated them and was glad to be rid, in a way!

I think what I may do is drop down to one a day once I hit 16 weeks for a week and then just do every other day for a week and then stop....

I totally get where you're coming from and the anxiousness as it's almost like you depend on them.

I was on them with my 4th miscarriage, and I had a missed miscarriage while taking them. So when I fell pregnant again I sort of was in the mindset they weren't the be all and end all. But took them twice a day as advised and I ran out at 15 weeks, my doctor said it was totally fine to stop there and then if I wanted to, and I did and here I am 35 weeks pregnant, 3 weeks today till I get induced. A healthy, happy pregnancy, and a baby girl growing away nicely.

Wishing you all the love💖

I phased them out and dropped to 1 per day for a week, helped me mentally!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 28/03/2022 12:34

I was told to stop at 10 weeks cold turkey. Pessaries patches and pill with my ivf pregnancy. He's now a strapping two year old.

Hope all goes well. I get that it's nerve wracking

Aranciata · 28/03/2022 13:28

I was told by IVF clinic to start reducing the dose of progesterone at 11 weeks (so only one pessary each morning and evening for a week, then one per day the following week, then stop). It was nerve wracking especially as I'd had some bleeding earlier in the pregnancy but my baby is here now.

If tapering would help you then do that.
